New Season Launch for East Riding County Choir

East Riding County Choir Entertain Packed Minster

Monday 8 September sees the start of the new season for the East Riding County Choir, when members begin rehearsing Haydn’s St. Nicholas Mass and Benjamin Britten’s St. Nicholas Cantata for their winter concert in on 6 December.

As usual at the start of the new term, the choir is looking to recruit fresh members. Although the choir was very successful in attracting ladies last year, it is still seriously short of male voices! This is a real problem, as low numbers of tenors and basses (and in particular tenors) begins to restrict the type of work the choir can perform.

If there are gentlemen out there who would like to join us, the first rehearsal is there as a ‘taster’ to get a feel for the choir and decide whether they would like to commit themselves further!

If so, at the second rehearsal (22 September) they will be given a voice check to see where best they will fit in with the choir. We would also welcome students (both male and female) who would be interested in developing their musical skills and cv by singing with a large (but very friendly) choir – and there are no subs for student members.

Incidentally, while this is the East Riding County Choir, membership is open to any singers who live outside the county – there are at least two members from across the Humber in Lincolnshire!

Rehearsals are held in the (next to ) off Coltman Avenue in Beverley at 7.30pm, and finish at 9.30pm. There is ample parking, both in front and at the rear of the centre.
