Danny Earl Strike Wins The Cup For Beverley Town

Beverley Town came from behind to win the East Riding Junior Cup beating local rivals 3-2 in extra time at Queensgate.

Beverley Town manager felt his side deserved the win and felt the substitutions were key to winning the match.

Garwood talking after the game said;

“We dominated from the start and deserved our lead, once we scored I felt we took our foot of the gas, and it would be fair to say our heads dropped in the second half, we Nelson took the lead.”

“Our side is a very young team. We had a host of sixteen-year olds playing for us. There was also a conflict of styles, they like to play a long ball while we tend to keep it on the ground.”

“Given the way we play and their tactics our lads had to cover a lot of ground and on a big pitch in warm conditions, it started to take its toll.”

Garwood feels the turning point in the game was the introduction of Lewis Whittles, Oliver Harrison and Lewis Mackinder, the gaffer said;

“As soon as we brought on some fresh legs, we regained the momentum in the match. We stretched them a couple of chances, and I felt if we equalised we would go on to win.”

Beverley Town were in control and took the lead mid-way through the first-half thanks to a goal from . Town, however, were pulled back Adam White equalise for Nelson from a free kick just before half time.

On the front foot, the Lord Nelson took the lead after a ‘festival of set plays’ saw them get a lucky break at a corner which resulted in goal for James Chadburn.

With just minutes left in the game super sub Mackinder came up with the all-important equaliser to send the game into extra time.

Town had a chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty, but the Craig Muirhead spot kick was well saved by David Butt.

With penalties looming, Town got the break they had been looking for when Danny Earl came up trumps with their third goal to win the cup.

Garwood added;

“We matched them physically today and got the result. The cup caps of what has been a great season for our team and the club as a whole.”

“For many of our players this season has been their first taste of men’s football. We finished runners-up in the East Riding County League and also won the Junior Cup.”

A disappointed Lord Nelson manager Terry Jackson said;

“I would like to congratulate Beverley on winning the cup. We had a good day and really enjoyed the experience. We had it won with so little time left in the game, but they were always knocking on our door.”

Final Score: Beverley Town 3 Lord Nelson 2 (AET)
