800 Runners Take Part In Snake Lane 10 Mile Road Race

Seven Beverley Athletic Club runners were among over 800 athletes competing in last Sunday’s Snake Lane 10 mile road race.

This very popular race is organised by Pocklington Runners, and sells out very quickly. It follows a fast, winding course along gently undulating country lanes north of Pocklington through the villages of Meltonby, Bishop Wilton, Bolton and Yapham.

Beverley’s fastest runner on the day was Peter Fielding-Smith, who clocked 1:06:50 in 111th place overall. Other notable performances from Beverley’s men came from Andrew Johnson, who finished in 1:07:26, and Alan Flint who took a creditable 4th place in his V60 age group in 1:09:18.

Only two Beverley women completed the race. Jackie Hardman also took 4th place in her FV55 age group, with a time of 1:23:57. She was followed home by Christine Hemingway in 1:33:14.

The overall winner of the men’s race was Carl Ryde of Doncaster AC, who completed the course in 54:46. The quickest female runner was Helen Cross of Pocklington Runners, who clocked 1:02:19. Cross was the first woman finisher in last year’s Beverley 10k race, and is clearly maintaining her position as one of the fastest local runners.

Beverley AC finishing times: Peter Fielding-Smith 1:06:50; Andrew Johnson 1:07:26; Alan Flint 1:09:18; Jody Horth 1:15:04; Jackie Hardman 1:23:57; Dan Hammond 1:29:34; Christine Hemingway 1:33:14
