Beverley Athletic Club seniors and juniors travelled to Goole last Sunday to take part in the third of a marathon Goole Riverbank Challenge and the 2-mile fun run.
The fun run attracted a field of almost a hundred and there was keen competition between the junior section of host club Goole Viking Striders and other local clubs.
After a battle with club mate Harry Powell, Ethan Dalton crossed the line first for Beverley in 10:32 and in 7th place overall. Powell followed 2 seconds later to finish in 8th place.
Twelve year-old Oliver Cockerill and 11 year-old Taylor Arnott did well against the older youngsters to finish in 15th and 18th places in 11:34 and 11:41 respectively.
The first Beverley girl to finish was Lauryn Garwood. She was the second girl overall and completed the course in 11:58.
In the third of a marathon Riverbank Challenge Mark Dawson was the first Beverley runner across the finishing line. He finished in 13th place overall in a commendable 57:43 beating club mate Mark Dalton for the first time. Running in her first third of a marathon race, Dawson’s 16 year-old daughter, Nicole, was the first Beverley lady to finish. She recorded an impressive time of 69:37 and was the ninth lady overall.
There were 222 finishers and the race was won by Pumlani Bangani of Salford Harriers in 49:59. The first lady was Elizibieta Lisowska in 61:32.
There were 96 finishers in the fun run and the race was won by Josh Brown of Rothwell Harriers in 10:08. The first girl was Jessica Chapman of Hull Achilles in 10:56.
