Experienced Middle Order Of Fordon & Simpson Help Earn Beverley A Draw

Beverley Town Club’s 4XI entertained Driffield and set a formidable target when they posted 235 for 7 on another good Norwood track.

RJ (31) and gave Beverley a decent start and their good work was built upon by the experienced middle order of Tim Fordon (76, 11×4, 3×6) and captain (66, 10×4, 2×6). Their partnership put Beverley in a commanding position and a last-over flourish from Matt Novis (10 no) capped a very good batting display.

The improving Under 15 player Kez Thompson, after some useful displays for the juniors during the week, spearheaded the Town attack claiming early wickets to put Driffield on the back foot. The reliable Iain Sugdon offered excellent support with an economical spell of 1 for 21 from ten overs and fellow slow bowlers Rob Emery (2-22) and Novis (0-42) played their part as Beverley tried to force the win.

Declan Corlyon (0-12) and (1-33) completed the bowling attack. Driffield opener Josh Hopper remained at the crease until near the end of the 44 overs when a good diving catch from veteran RJ Thompson off Horton saw him disappointingly short of a century, seventh man out for an excellent 91. Town were unable to secure ten wickets for an outright win but claimed seventeen points for the draw leaving their captain well satisfied as the team batted the full 44 overs and the young bowlers all played their part.
