Acklams New Elite Coach Manufactured by Yorkshire Based Plaxton

Customers of Acklams Coaches in Beverley enjoyed a grand day out in Scarborough this week as the company took delivery of the latest addition to its fleet.

Paul and Alan Acklam were joined by over 30 valued customers on a visit to the Plaxton factory in Scarborough where their new 51-seater Elite coach was built.

The group toured the factory to see how Plaxton’s skilled workforce design and build luxury coaches. From a chassis with an engine to a gleaming new coach equipped with the latest technology and facilities takes around 9 weeks and the party was able to see how the transformation is achieved.

Asked why Acklams had chosen Plaxton to build their new vehicle, Alan Acklam commented: “We like to support local companies and Plaxton supply quality vehicles and offer excellent service.”

Facilities on the new coach include airline style overhead lockers, WC, full CCTV and a retractable flat screen which can show the view from the driver’s seat as well as DVDs. Seats offer exceptional passenger comfort with a ribbed design and rich red upholstery. The aerodynamic profile and familiar Acklam livery create a stunning appearance.

After a buffet lunch the party boarded the brand new coach and set off on the return journey to Beverley via Scarborough’s seafront. At the wheel was Acklam’s driver Malcolm Healey who had the honour of being the first to drive the new coach. As a professional driver he appreciated the latest technology and manoeuvred the 12 metre long coach with ease around the streets of Scarborough. The Elite travelled effortlessly up the steep slope of Staxton Hill and passengers had a very comfortable journey back to Beverley.
