World War I Memorial in Hengate Gardens to Be Restored

Plans are being put in place to restore the World War I memorial in Hengate Gardens.

Councillors and Dominic Peacock met with Beverley Civic Society’s Gerald O’Callaghan and ’s county chairman Alan Higbee to discuss what could be done to bring the memorial back to its former glory.

In what was described by councillor Elvidge as a “productive meeting” it was agreed to obtain three quotes for the work and from there discuss how the money can be raised.

One funding source is already in place. In his year as Mayor, councillor Elvidge started the Memorial Fund, which raised money for the new memorial in Hengate Gardens commemorating the town’s serving men and women killed in action since World War II.

This has been kept open and donations can be made towards the World War I memorial restoration by sending any money to , 12 Well Lane, Beverley 9BL.
