White Helps Fire Town To Third

Beverley Town made the short journey to Bishop Burton aiming to build on last weeks victory at North Cave in the Humber Premier League.

Manager Dave Walton brought in Mark Bagshaw at left back and Dean Taylor in midfield, a sign of Towns strength in depth that 2 excellent players can step straight into the team and perform to a high standard as they both did.

Town hit the ground running, and could have been 3 nil up after only 10 minutes. Straight from the kick off a ball down the right channel released Jimmy Symes, who squared to Nathan White near the edge of the 18 yard box.

White had only the keeper to beat but fired straight at his legs and the ball was then cleared to safety. Town continued to attack with purpose and flair. Both full backs were getting forward on a regular basis, and supplying excellent service to the front 3.

After sustained pressure the breakthrough finally came for Beverley on 20 minutes. Some good work down the right flank by Asa Pardoe resulted in a dangerous ball across the St Andrews box, this was not dealt with and finally made its way to the back post, where Nathan White was on hand to shoot on goal.

His shot was blocked by the defender but fell kindly to striker Jimmy Symes who calmly slotted past the keeper. Beverley remained on top, and 10 minutes later went two nil up when Steve Irwin turned the ball into the back of the net from six yards out, after a corner was not dealt with by the St Andrews defence. There was a suspicion offside but the goal stood and Town were now in cruise control.

St Andrews threatened occasionally, with the number 9 always looking dangerous, and proving to be their best player by far. In the soaring heat it was important to keep concentration, and when St Andrews did carve an opening keeper Ben Thompson was on hand to make sure Towns clean sheet was intact.

Beverley started the second half very much in the same vein. Striker Jimmy Symes was put through on goal, and as he was about to pull the trigger he was hauled down by the big St Andrews striker just outside the penalty box.

Town were awarded a free kick and St Andrews were very lucky not to be reduced to 10 men. Dean Taylor lined up the free kick from slightly right of centre, and hit a curling right footed shot that beat the keeper and rebounded off the post to safety.

On 55 minutes Town stretched their lead thanks to a goal from Nathan white. After some great work down the right by Phil Gardner, who went past 2 players and delivered a perfect cross across the face of goal. Striker Jimmy Symes unselfishly stepped over the ball for White to fire home seal the game for Beverley Town.

On 60 minutes Dave Walton and Ross Cording made some changes to freshen things up as the energy sapping heat was taking its toll. Mike Evins replaced Rich Jagger, and shortly after that change youngsters Connor Hawkes and Jamie Cording entered the field of play to gain some valuable experience at Humber Premier League level. Town continued to dominate possession, and could easily have added another 2 goals to their tally but for some wayward finishing.

The full time whistle came and its was pleasing to see Town still pushing for further goals. Assistant manager Ross Cording was very pleased with Towns performance, he said;

“We worked really hard to keep the ball and create a number of openings. We had 65% of the possession overall in the game, and with 15 shots on goal we could easily have converted another 3 or 4 to make it a big score line. Defensively we were solid again, reducing St Andrews to only 3 shots on target and pleasingly non of them beat keeper Ben Thompson.”

Town face Bransholme Atheletic at home in the League Cup next week, KO 2pm at Norwood Recreation Ground.
