The Blue and Golds were outplayed for the majority of this game at the Beverley Leisure Centre by a more experienced opposition. The visitors from Keyingham swept into a 16-0 lead after only 25 minutes of play. However the introduction of Guy Adams off the bench perked the Blue and Golds up and one powerful surge from him set up the position for Steve Davidson to twist and turn his way over for a well taken try just before half time.
The restart kick from Holderness at the beginning of the half went directly into touch and the resultant penalty sent the hosts straight on the attack, with Gavin Proctor eventually forcing his way over from the dummy half position.
Rob Thompson converted to further reduce the arrears to 16-10. Beverley continued to press and seemed the game was rescuable, but the visitors absorbed the pressure and racked up a further 18 points to put the game beyond doubt. The home side recovered in the closing stages and Steve Davidson scored his second and a late consolation try for Beverley.
Pete Newton took the man of the match award for an afternoon of hard graft in both defence and attack. There was also a notably good debut from Sam Coleman- a recent signing from West Hull.
This Saturday the Blue and Golds are at home to Hull University in a rearranged fixture. These two sides met earlier in the season fighting out a 30-30 draw in a game that Beverley regarded as a point lost rather than a point gained. They will go into the game determined to atone for the disappointments of recent weeks. Kick off is 2pm at the Leisure Centre.
