AFC Tickton travelled to play Pinefleet on the back of two defeats and showed that they were determined to come away with all three points from the first whistle. Natalie Cording, Lucie Hall and Lottie Tuisawau controlled the midfield and began to distribute the ball for Izzie Clark and Lauren Stubbs to chase after, which caused the hosts no end of problems.
The AFC Tickton pressure resulted in a succession of corners for the away team and it was no surprise when Lauren Stubbs put AFC Tickton ahead, firing home from close range. AFC Tickton’s second goal came from more of the same as Lauren Stubbs was again in the right place at the right time to tap the ball in from a perfectly delivered corner courtesy of Lottie Tuisawau.
The second half started in the same vein as the first with AFC Tickton pressing forward to try to score another goal to make the game safe; however, the space left at the back was soon exploited by Hannah Wood as she ran through to score for the home team. This spurred Pinefleet on and as they continued to press forward it was only a succession of fine saves from Loralie Castle combined with some excellent defending from Eleanor Gilbert, Shannon Tong and the influential Rachel Hill that stopped the home team from equalising.
The AFC Tickton forwards then began to assert themselves once more and their pressure paid off when the ball fell to Lily Brunton inside the box and she curled the ball neatly in at the far post. AFC Tickton then saw out the rest of the game and were unlucky not to have added another two goals to their tally after shots from both Enisha Ali and Izzie Clark had beaten the Pinefleet keeper but crashed back off the post.
