Beverley’s Treasure House is hosting more tours of the popular exhibition ‘Birds, Books and Belfries’.
Francis Orpen Morris lived from 1810 to 1893, was an advocate for wildlife, an author, and a vicar at Nafferton and Nunburnholme. This exhibition explores his remarkable life and work.
As part of a partnership with the East Riding Astronomers, the Treasure House has opened a new Community Exhibition called Stargazing.
The exhibition, which can be found on the ground floor near the library, runs until the end of November. This is one of the best times of the year to see planets and stars, as it is one of the best viewing periods of the year.
Students from two special schools in the East Riding have worked alongside a visual artist in the Red Gallery at Beverley Art Gallery’s My Wolds exhibition.
Working with Penny Barron, a Wolds artist, the students have produced artwork representing their own experiences based on the Wolds.

In 1962, the Beverley-based sculptor, Jacqueline Stieger, met the Austrian sculptor, Alfred Gruber. A personal and creative relationship followed that not only brought Gruber to Beverley but also introduced his European artistic friends to the region.
There will be a chance to join Treasure House Curator, Sally Hayes, to hear about the paintings of Fred and Mary Elwell which are on display in Beverley Art Gallery, on Wednesday, 8 June, from 1pm – 1.30pm.
This short informal lunchtime tour will provide an enjoyable introduction to the renowned artistic Beverlonian couple and will be the perfect companion event to the performances of Gordon Meredith’s new play, ‘Paint the Town Fred’, at East Riding Theatre in Beverley on 9, 10, and 11 June.
‘Birds, Books and Belfries’ will be celebrated at the Treasure House in Beverley on Saturday, 21 May, from 10am-1pm.
It explores the remarkable life and work of Reverend Francis Orpen Morris, a wildlife campaigner, writer, and vicar of Nafferton and Nunburnholme from 1810-1893.
It is being planned for the council’s local growth team to do two days of activities in the centre of Beverley towards the end of the month.
There will be no pre-registration required for the events, and there will be no charge to attend. Over the course of two days, a variety of family entertainment will be provided by outside vendors as well as council-sponsored teams and community organisations.
In conjunction with Beverley Art Gallery’s latest exhibition success, the Treasure House will host a series of events by guest curator Dr Gerardine Mulcahy-Parker.
The lecture will give participants an opportunity to learn more about the artists on display and how such a remarkable exhibition came about.
East Riding Museums has a collection of objects that commemorate and celebrate Royal coronations and jubilees, weddings, and Royal family visits to the region.

With reference to composition, pose and materials seen in the permanent collection and the Treasure House programme of exhibitions, Esther will take participants through a variety of figure drawing approaches, working with a life model.
There will be an opportunity to find out more about the new exhibition at Beverley Art Gallery, ‘Crossing Borders from the Danube to the Humber: Alfred Gruber and Friends’ at a free lunchtime drop by a tour on Monday, 25 April from 12.30pm to 1pm at the Treasure House in Beverley.
