Beverley ARLFC went toe to toe with their Cumbrian hosts for 65 minutes but just ran out of steam in the closing minutes.
Up until then, particularly in the first half, an upset against the still promotion-chasing home side looked likely as they led 14-4 at the break and were still 14-10 up deep into the second half.
This performance by Beverley will rank as the best and most complete so far this season. A big crowd basked in the sun and the home side handled the big occasion the better of the two sides.
This latest win moves the Blue and Golds up to 5th with the business end of the season approaches. Beverley faces another crucial home fixture against 3rd placed Wigan St Judes next Saturday.
The blue and golds will take on Hull Dockers this Saturday in their only derby fixture this season. Beverley will face Hull Dockers at 2.30pm kick-off at the Leisure Centre.
The match is also the second leg of the Paul ‘Curly’ Quiney Cup. The match, sponsored by the Middleton family, seems likely to attract the biggest crowd of the season so far to the Leisure Centre with a lot riding on the game.
Beverley ARLFC bounced back from last weekend’s defeat at Bradford Dudley Hill to keep their top six play-off hopes very much alive.
Next week’s opponents Hull Dockers also enjoyed a crushing 60-6 win against East Leeds to set up a tasty derby at the Leisure Centre. This game could now prove to be pivotal in either side’s season.
Six years in the planning the Beverley Braves will soon be ready to move into their new home on Thurlow Avenue.
Chairperson of the club Neil Gay says the new facility will help them develop as a club. He also says having a base they can call home will benefit the young people in their ranks.
