Pat Howdle has stepped down as Director of Rugby at Beverley ARLC bringing the end to a four-year spell with the club.
News of his departure was issued by the club who expressed their most sincere thanks. Howdle took charge at the club in the summer of 2014. During that time the club has developed rapidly and has even played live on TV.
This was a tough day at the office for the blue and golds. Due to a number of absences they went into this final pre-season friendly with a depleted line up.
Regular half-back pairing Lewis Straw and Lewis Poskitt were missing as were Jack Howdle, Chris Johnson, Peter Starling, Josh Poskitt, Billy Riby, Steve Connolly and Ben Bardle. Bradley Kirkby had to pull out shortly before kick off as a precautionary measure not wishing to aggravate a pulled hamstring.
The blue and golds will come away from this Challenge Cup tie with their heads held high despite bowing out of the competition.
In a game played in miserable conditions of freezing rain on a heavy pitch, the home adapted better to the adverse conditions. They spilled possession on fewer occasions and mainly concentrated on percentage rugby.
The blue and golds just fell at the final hurdle in their bid for Grand Final glory at the home of Batley Bulldogs on Saturday. They had to admit that the best team on the day won.
Beverley came into the final expecting a different type of game to the previous week’s war of attrition in the semi-final and their opponents expansive attacking machine proved to be just a little too much to handle.
