The blue golds have just returned to pre-season training, commencing weekly sessions on the Longcroft 3G at PM every Thursday evening.
Head Coach Scott Taylor is currently on World Cup duty in Australia so Assistant Coach Duncan O’Connor and Director of Rugby Pat Howdle are holding the fort.
The blue and golds were confirmed as semi-finalists in the end of season top four play-offs last Saturday when Bentley last to Batley Boys 14-4.
Bentley were the only side that could deny the blue and golds fourth spot. Their reward is an away trip to first placed Batley Boys this Saturday, with the other semi-final being between second placed Siddal Academy against third placed East Hull.
The blue and golds will return to action this Saturday with a derby clash against East Hull in their kick off 2.30PM at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
It is a game that will make or break their season as Beverley currently sit in 5th place level on points with Bentley, but with a points difference that is inferior by 35.
The blue and golds produced arguably their best performance of the season on their travels as Beverley took their chances and won 40-10 against Queensbury.
While the score-line would appear a little deceiving as the Beverley had to defend for long periods close to their own line as the home side’s offload game looked a constant threat.
This game was a much closer shave than the score-line suggests. The crucial moment in the game was the awarding of an eight point try to Beverley on the stroke of what appeared to be full time on most peoples watches.
Trailing 22-16 the Beverley were throwing the ball around desperately seeking points when Lewis Colrien’s kick towards the corner changed the game.
The blue and golds were outplayed by the champions elect Siddal Academy as the visitors secured their second win over Beverley in as many weeks at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
Missing a few frontline players the home side found it difficult to contain their skillful and pacey opponents. However they did rally in the second half and it was to their credit that they kept the score respectable.
The blue and golds will have no complaints about this one as they were defeated by a well drilled outfit which underlined it’s title credentials.
The attacking machine of Siddal Academy took some containing and Beverley spent long periods of the game defending on their own goal line. It seemed that Siddal had just too many attacking options.
The blue and golds chalked up two more league points in a clash which they had to overcome the physical intimidation of the visitors to win. Such tactics were regrettable and needless as the big crowd soaking up the sun should have really have been treat to a tight contest between two evenly matched sides.
For the record, the referee sent off 2 Bentley players and sin-binned a further 3 and sin binned 2 from Beverley. One elbow to the face in the second half on Chris Johnson saw him taken to hospital with the club awaiting news.
The blue and golds will take on North Hull Knights at the Beverley Leisure Centre this Saturday kick off 2,30pm.
Scott Taylor will have to make do without the services of Sam Coleman, Bobby Howdle and Ryan Watkin who are representing the British Army at the Armed Forces Festival at Crossfields ARLFC, Warrington.
The blue and golds chalked up two more league points as they dispatched a depleted but very spirited Sharlston outfit.
The men from the former West Riding mining village have a long tradition in the game but are in something of a rebuilding phase. Sharlston were among the title favourites in 2016.
The blue and golds came away from their first ever trip to the Highfields University ground with another two league points to add to their midweek victory at North Hull Knights.
It rounded off a thoroughly good week for the club and sees them rise from second to bottom on the table to fifth.
The blue and golds will be disappointed with the result but will take heart from a brave performance against the league leaders and possibly the title favourites.
Batley from the West Riding brought a side large in physical stature to the Leisure Centre and asked a huge amount of questions of the Beverley defence.
