Musical Memories: Exhibitions Up Close At The Treasure House

Visitors to the Beverley Treasure House will be able to to find out more about the life and work of composer, conductor and director of music at Bridlington Spa, Herman Darewski.

As part of the current exhibition, there will be Darewski-related handling material to take a closer look at. Also, there will be original vinyl playing on the 1930s gramophone and screenings of Darewski’s films from the British Pathe archive.

First World War Collection On Display To Mark Centenary Of The Armistice

To commemorate the centenary of the Armistice on 11 November 1918, which brought an end to the First World War, Hull Museums and the Hull History Centre are showcasing archives and collections relating to the conflict.

The incredible archive includes photographs, first-person accounts of the war and one of the ceramic poppies that appeared in last year’s Weeping Willow display outside the Maritime Museum.

BAFTA winning composer John Stead will diffuse the especially commissioned work to accompany the film, which has been showing in Beverley Art Gallery this month.

A new display by the Skidby Mill volunteer team has just opened. ‘Historic hospitals: care in the East Riding before the Health Service’ examines the beginnings of organised public health provision in the region in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Some of the places covered in the exhibition are Castle Hill hospital, Cottingham; the Lloyd cottage hospital in Bridlington; and Withernsea convalescent home.
