East Riding Residents Urged To Take Up Free Flu Vaccine

Public Health England (PHE) and the NHS’s joint Stay Well This Winter campaign has launched with the national flu vaccination programme, now available nationwide to all eligible people.

Last year in Yorkshire and the Humber, 38% of children aged 2-4 years were vaccinated, with children also offered the vaccine in school years 1, 2 and 3. The vaccine was also administered to 48% of people in at-risk groups and 72% of people aged 65 or older. Uptake by pregnant women nationally was 45%.

A report, due to be considered by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Cabinet on Tuesday, 17 October, sets out how the Yorkshire Coast Community Led Local Development (CLLD) Programme will be delivered, in partnership with Scarborough Borough Council, and will give local organisations and businesses the opportunity to apply for project grants from the European Social Fund and the European Regional Development Fund.

There has never been a better time to quit smoking: new data published today shows quitting success rates at their highest for at least a decade, up to 19.8% for the first six months of this year, significantly higher than the average for the last 10 years (15.7%).

Success rates among the less well-off have for years remained stubbornly low, but in a major turnaround the sharp increase in success rates is being seen entirely among this group.

Hornsea South Promenade Plans Secure Coast Communities Funding

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has welcomed the Department for Communities and Local Government’s (DCLG) announcement of £3.77 million of Coast Communities Funding towards plans for the redevelopment of Hornsea South Promenade.

The plans were developed alongside the Hornsea Area Regeneration Partnership and the existing users of the site, including the commercial fishermen, Hornsea Inshore Rescue and the Hornsea Sea Angling Club, and received planning permission in February 2016.
