Beverley Town Council’s new Liberal Democrat councillors have intervened in the row about a new gate that has been erected by Peter Ward Homes.
Installed on Gallows Lane, residents had complained that an ancient right of way has been blocked. They also say access is only being provided to the residents of the new luxury homes.
Residents need not be concerned over access to Gallows Lane from the Westwood. Access currently has been restricted but is just a temporary measure.
A spokesperson for Peter Ward Homes, the company who is currently developing a housing has confirmed that the gate has been erected in the interest of public safety.

His comments come after both Bishop Burton College and East Riding College were successful in winning a bid to become Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology.
Bishop Burton College will become a new centre of excellence for high levels skills training in the region following a multi-million-pound investment.
The college will work with seven other further education colleges and two universities to develop the Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology (IoT).

A cycling scheme for Syrian refugees won a top national award for sustainable travel. The road safety team at ERYC and Refugee Council led the incentive that saw forty refugees take part.
Refugees from Syria who settled in the East Riding were given training in cycling skills and also road safety.
East Riding College is welcoming back ex-student Peter Sidwell as he returns to Beverley to open the Beverley Food Festival as its special guest.
Pocklington-born Peter, who studied at the College when it was still Beverley College, is now a TV chef and presenter of the Channel 4 cookery show Lakes on a Plate. He is also well known as the author of the Simply Good Food range of cookbooks and runs a restaurant and cookery school in the Lake District.
