An intrepid team of council staff completed a 100km cycle challenge on behalf of East Riding teachers.

Despite heavy rain, a puncture, a route change and one less rider, three members of East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s transport development team managed to cycle from Withernsea lighthouse to Flamborough lighthouse.

A team of council staff are taking on a 100km (62 miles) cycle challenge this week in place of teachers who need to stay in the classroom during the coronavirus lockdown.

Forty teachers from schools across the East Riding had been due to take part in the annual 100km bike ride as part of the Cycle4Life Challenge organised each year by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The 2nd XI lost one game and picked up 27 points from their second to slip out of and back in to the promotion places; the 3rds won and then lost in two very tight finishes; and the 4ths rounded off their unbeaten season off in in style with a comfortable win.

A company director has been ordered to pay £1,763.50 after his firm illegally put signs up across the East Riding advertising a Christmas event in Beverley.

Paul Leonard, director of Cottage Industrys Ltd of Ings Lane, Dunswell, had a significant number of advertising boards placed on the public highway without permission in October last year to promote a Mistletoe Fair at Beverley Racecourse taking place in November.

The Hornsea & District Hospital War Memorial Challenge Cup, more popularly known as the Tanton Cup, after P.C. Tanton Esq who donated the trophy, is one of the oldest football cup competitions in the East Riding, and this will be its 94th anniversary year.

It is competed for by local football clubs from North Holderness and still remains a popular competition among local players and spectators. Hornsea Town are the current cup holders.
