Beverley ARLKC will welcome Eastmoor Dragons at the Beverley Leisure Centre this Saturday as they look to make it six wins on the bounce.
Last weeks 84-6 demolition of Stanley Rangers gave a massive boost to their points difference which is now 123 better than second placed Clock Face Miners who have also won 5 from 5.
Beverley ARLC are back in action weekend as they look to maintain their flying start to the season this Saturday when they entertain Salford City Roosters.
Beverley, who are top of the NCL with three wins from three will go head to head with the Roosters in the 2.30PM kick off at the Beverley Leisure Centre
The blue and golds will entertain Oldham St Annes this Saturday aiming to make it three wins in a row.
Although pleased with last weekend’s 40-24 victory at Woolston Rovers, head coach Scott Taylor felt his side took their foot off the accelerator pedal in the second half having led 28-0 at the break.
This was a tough day at the office for the blue and golds. Due to a number of absences they went into this final pre-season friendly with a depleted line up.
Regular half-back pairing Lewis Straw and Lewis Poskitt were missing as were Jack Howdle, Chris Johnson, Peter Starling, Josh Poskitt, Billy Riby, Steve Connolly and Ben Bardle. Bradley Kirkby had to pull out shortly before kick off as a precautionary measure not wishing to aggravate a pulled hamstring.
The blue and golds just fell at the final hurdle in their bid for Grand Final glory at the home of Batley Bulldogs on Saturday. They had to admit that the best team on the day won.
Beverley came into the final expecting a different type of game to the previous week’s war of attrition in the semi-final and their opponents expansive attacking machine proved to be just a little too much to handle.
The blue and golds season will be on the line today when they take on East Hull at the Beverley Leisure Centre in their 2.30pm kick-off.
Beverley are looking to secure a top four spot and qualify for the play-offs. Realistically, the hosts must win as they lie in 5th place level on points with fourth placed Bentley whose point difference is superior by 35.
The blue and golds produced arguably their best performance of the season on their travels as Beverley took their chances and won 40-10 against Queensbury.
While the score-line would appear a little deceiving as the Beverley had to defend for long periods close to their own line as the home side’s offload game looked a constant threat.
This game was a much closer shave than the score-line suggests. The crucial moment in the game was the awarding of an eight point try to Beverley on the stroke of what appeared to be full time on most peoples watches.
Trailing 22-16 the Beverley were throwing the ball around desperately seeking points when Lewis Colrien’s kick towards the corner changed the game.
The blue and golds were outplayed by the champions elect Siddal Academy as the visitors secured their second win over Beverley in as many weeks at the Beverley Leisure Centre.
Missing a few frontline players the home side found it difficult to contain their skillful and pacey opponents. However they did rally in the second half and it was to their credit that they kept the score respectable.
The blue and golds will have no complaints about this one as they were defeated by a well drilled outfit which underlined it’s title credentials.
The attacking machine of Siddal Academy took some containing and Beverley spent long periods of the game defending on their own goal line. It seemed that Siddal had just too many attacking options.
The blue and golds chalked up two more league points in a clash which they had to overcome the physical intimidation of the visitors to win. Such tactics were regrettable and needless as the big crowd soaking up the sun should have really have been treat to a tight contest between two evenly matched sides.
For the record, the referee sent off 2 Bentley players and sin-binned a further 3 and sin binned 2 from Beverley. One elbow to the face in the second half on Chris Johnson saw him taken to hospital with the club awaiting news.
The blue and golds will take on North Hull Knights at the Beverley Leisure Centre this Saturday kick off 2,30pm.
Scott Taylor will have to make do without the services of Sam Coleman, Bobby Howdle and Ryan Watkin who are representing the British Army at the Armed Forces Festival at Crossfields ARLFC, Warrington.
The blue and golds will be disappointed with the result but will take heart from a brave performance against the league leaders and possibly the title favourites.
Batley from the West Riding brought a side large in physical stature to the Leisure Centre and asked a huge amount of questions of the Beverley defence.
The blue and golds were edged out in this tight contest on the opening day of the league season. It was a quality game in which the home side’s game management was slightly the better of the two sides. Also the hosts were allowed to make far too many breaks up the middle for Beverley to give themselves a chance of winning. Pat Howdle commented; “We knew it was going…
