Graham Stuart MP Leads Event To Help Save Lives

As part of a campaign to improve emergency ambulance response times across his constituency, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart held a HEART Conference in Withernsea last Saturday. Named ‘Influence, Educate and Have a Go’ the aim of the event was to get members of the public to learn how they can make a difference in an emergency as well as promoting the work of Community First Responder Teams. Graham said, “Saturday’s event was so well received that people are urging me to repeat it in Beverley, Hedon and Hornsea, it was fantastic to see so many children and adults who were genuinely interested in learning how to save a life. Knowing how to save the life of a friend, loved one or even a complete stranger is a skill that you hope you will never need to use but will be very grateful of if you find yourself in an emergency situation. “Since the beginning of my campaign, emergency response times in the constituency have got better but there is still room for improvement; with greater support for our Community First Responder Teams and more teams, particularly in Mid Holderness, we can improve those times further…

Community First Responders Get Full Time Trainer

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service has appointed a full time Community First Responder Community First Responders team trainer. The post was previously covered by a temporary contract that was due to expire at the end of this month and will now be covered by a full time contract for 37.5hrs per week. Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart said, “A number of CFR teams from across the constituency wrote to me with concerns about how their training needs would be met beyond April this year. “I contacted the Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to highlight concerns and am pleased that the Community First Responder team trainer’s post has now been made into a permanent position. “Community First Responders have a vital part to play in making sure that local residents – and rural residents in particular – get a timely response to their emergency call. I want to see the number of CFR teams increase so that we have better coverage and better outcomes for people in Holderness and beyond. “On Saturday 11th May I will be holding an event in Withernsea’s Meridian Centre from 10am – 1pm called ‘Influence, Educate and Have a Go’ which…

Graham Stuart MP To Hold H.E.A.R.T Conference In Withernsea

Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart will be holding a conference at Withernsea’s Meridian Centre on Saturday 11th May as part of his campaign to improve emergency ambulance response times in the Constituency. Graham Stuart said, “The event is called ‘Influence, Educate and Have a Go’ and is aimed at getting as many people as possible having a go at hands only CPR and using a defibrillation machine in order to improve the survival rate of out of hospital cardiac arrests. We will also be promoting the work of our Community First Responder Teams. “Getting help in the first few minutes of a cardiac arrest is essential for the best possible chance of survival and recovery. The more people who know how to help and have the confidence to do so will give every victim greater hope of survival. “I attended a similar event in Westminster last year and was surprised how easy it is to use a defibrillation machine and do chest compressions. We are all capable of saving a life if we have the skills and confidence to do so. “I will be joined at the event by a group called Cardiac Risk in the…

Dog Walkers Urged To Leave Nothing Behind But Footsteps

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is launching Dog Fouling Week under the slogan ‘Leave nothing behind but your footsteps’. Some areas of the East Riding are plagued by dog fouling and despite pleas from the council the nuisance is continuing. As part of its campaign to tackle the problem, which causes distress to residents, the council is holding a week of early morning patrols by its dog wardens in selected areas. Dog Fouling Week starts on Monday, 11 March in Beverley, Bridlington, Goole, Withernsea and the Anlaby, Cottingham and Hessle area. The dog wardens will be supported by other enforcement officers. Fixed penalty notices will be issued to those dog walkers who fail to clean up. The £75 fixed penalty notice is issued under the Fouling of Land by Dogs Order 2009, which makes it an offence to fail to clean up after a dog which defecates on land in the open air to which the public have access. Failure to pay up could land the dog walker in court, which also has the effect of bumping up the cost. Councillor Jackie Cracknell, portfolio holder for community partnerships, said: “The message behind Dog Fouling Week is a simple one, clean…

WITHERNSEA : Green Fingered MP is Full of Beans

At the end of last year the Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart visited the Patchwork Farm Project in Withernsea to hear about their plans to develop under-used garden space to grow food produce for the community. Graham said, “This is a fabulous project which has attracted fifty thousand pounds of support from the Santander Social Enterprise Development awards. “During my visit I was invited to sow some green bean seeds for the project; I am not renowned for my green fingers so I was surprised to hear that my beans are progressing well and are almost ready to be re-potted.” Shores Chief Executive, Jayne Nendick said, “It is astonishing how well Graham’s beans are progressing. They are towering above other seedlings that were planted at the same time. “From discussions we have had with various community partners and the local community we anticipate over 300 gardens taking part in the Patchwork Farm project this year and we expect to grow produce to support over 400 residents. We are currently recruiting and training volunteers to work on the project. This can be a slow process due to compulsory background checks but once everybody is fully registered then it should be…
