The Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin MP, Secretary of State for Transport, is today visiting the East Riding to mark the completion of highway works on the A164 and speak to users of the council’s Wheels to Work Scheme, in Goole, which was funded by the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). The £10 million A164 Humber Bridge to Beverley Route Improvement Scheme, to which the council contributed £2.3 million, began in spring 2012 and was designed to reduce congestion, particularly at peak intervals, and improve traffic flows for up to 35,000 vehicles using the road each day. As well as the installation of a section of dual carriageway, between Willerby and Castle Hill, the council’s contractor, Jackson Civil Engineering, also reconfigured four roundabouts and constructed lengths of new footpath/cycleway. To commemorate the occasion, Mr McLoughlin, Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Adam Tuke, contracts director for Jackson Civil Engineering, will be planting a tree at the site. In the afternoon, the Transport Secretary will be visiting Goole to view one of the schemes being funded by the £1.8 million the council successfully secured from the LSTF for the ‘Get Moving Goole’…

The next stages of the project will be to finalise the detailed design, procure a contractor and acquire the land necessary for the scheme, preferably by negotiation, although a compulsory purchase order is being prepared and anticipated to be published in spring/summer. Construction works are currently anticipated to start in summer 2014 and be complete in summer 2015. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “I think I speak for both residents of the East Riding and Hull, when I say how welcome the news is that the funding for this important scheme has been secured and, with planning permission approved, that its delivery cannot happen soon enough. “The council takes the…

Beverley Whitestar

Beverley Whitestar exited the cup as Westella and Willerby Juniors seized on their opportunities booking a place in the Lassa Tyres cup final with a convincing 4-1 semi final home win. With Juniors already through to the Cup final their season is already shaping up to be a fruitfull one. Juniors applied the pressure from the start of the game dominating possession and went close when Tommy Waud fired his long-range shot into the side netting. Tommy Attwood then saw his shot well saved by Beverley’s keeper Lewis Richardson. 15 minutes into the game it was Josh Corlett, who saw his 25-yard effort saved and Charlie Dunkerley was unlucky as he unleashed a long-range shot from wide right only to see the ball land on the roof of the net. Juniors finally broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Dunkerley skilfully set Waud away down the right whose accurate cross picked out George Barmby to head home from close range for 1-0. Moments later Juniors almost doubled their advantage when Dunkerley picked out James Lee, who was unlucky to see his header fly over the bar. Juniors raised the tempo straight from the restart with Barmby twice firing wide before Lee saw his shot across goal go narrowly…
