Dog Walkers Urged To Leave Nothing Behind But Footsteps

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is launching Dog Fouling Week under the slogan ‘Leave nothing behind but your footsteps’. Some areas of the East Riding are plagued by dog fouling and despite pleas from the council the nuisance is continuing. As part of its campaign to tackle the problem, which causes distress to residents, the council is holding a week of early morning patrols by its dog wardens in selected areas. Dog Fouling Week starts on Monday, 11 March in Beverley, Bridlington, Goole, Withernsea and the Anlaby, Cottingham and Hessle area. The dog wardens will be supported by other enforcement officers. Fixed penalty notices will be issued to those dog walkers who fail to clean up. The £75 fixed penalty notice is issued under the Fouling of Land by Dogs Order 2009, which makes it an offence to fail to clean up after a dog which defecates on land in the open air to which the public have access. Failure to pay up could land the dog walker in court, which also has the effect of bumping up the cost. Councillor Jackie Cracknell, portfolio holder for community partnerships, said: “The message behind Dog Fouling Week is a simple one, clean…

800-hay-bales---size-of-a-s

In the last two months there have been three incidents where a number of hay bales have been set alight. Humberside Police and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are advising farmers and members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Shortly before 2100hrs on Thursday 04 October, about 800 stacks of bales in a field where set alight on High Street, North Ferriby. This was a large blaze, very close to a tree line and Ferriby High Road; leading to the road being closed for nearly 11 hours and the farm being thousands of pounds out of pocket. Previously last month; at 0230hrs on Sunday 23 September a bale of hay was set on fire on the B1230, between High Hunsley and Walkington and just after 0300hrs on Sunday 12 August a very large square bail was set alight in the middle of Gibson Lane, Melton, North Ferriby. It is believed the bail to pushed or rolled deliberately into the middle of the road, before being set alight. The police are working closely with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service to investigate these incidents and are appealing for the community to come forward with any information they…

Walkers To Get New Shelter In Wolds Village

April 5, 2012
By

The small village of Fridaythorpe, high on the Yorkshire Wolds, sees construction start this week of an innovative shelter for walkers, residents and bus passengers. The new shelter has been developed as part of WANDER, a series of new artworks along the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail. Designed by Leeds-based architects Bauman Lyons, in close consultation with local residents and the parish council, the shelter will be situated in a prime position on the village green, at the halfway point of the Yorkshire Wolds Way. The shelter will provide a place for walkers to rest, as well as a focal point for anyone in the village to sit down and spend some time looking at the beautiful view of the pond and the green. At the same time, the shelter will provide a significant improvement on the old concrete bus shelter provided for the travelling public. The Bauman Lyons design incorporates a laminated wooden frame, glazed panels to allow a view through the shelter and high-quality concrete tiled cladding which is durable and low maintenance, essential for this exposed site in the Wolds. The architects used an innovative design process called BIM, a method of modelling all the information on…

Missing 11 Year Old Elloughton Boy

March 7, 2012
By

Police and family are concerned for the welfare of an 11-year-old Elloughton boy who is currently missing from his home address. Benjamin Nicholls, known as Ben to his family and friends from Elloughton in Brough was last seen last night before going to bed shortly after 2100hrs (Tuesday 06 March 2012). Ben suffers from health problems, which deems him not socially adept and will want to be on his own. Ben is 11 years old, 4 ft 8ins tall, slim build and has short brown hair. Ben usually wears glasses, but these remain at home. It is thought Ben will be wearing his black Superdry coat, black boots and likely to be wearing jeans. He has no access to a mobile phone or money and looks younger than 11 years old. Ben has never been reported missing before and this is extremely out of character for him. Police searches are being carried out in Brough, Elloughton and the Dales area, along with checks in fields, at hospitals, on public transport and outbuildings. It is thought Ben, who enjoys walks, may be somewhere away from the public and possibly in a field or wooded area. Police are searching all likely places,…
