Graham Stuart : 7 GP Practices Were Using Premium Rate Phone Numbers

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, is a campaigner against the use of premium rate phone numbers by Government and the NHS. In the past he has tabled Parliamentary Questions and called for a Debate to question the Minister about them, and remains concerned that these numbers are still rife across Government departments and their agencies. Graham Stuart says “It’s plain and simple that these rip-off numbers are wrong and the Government should get rid of them as soon as possible, especially since there are cheaper local-rate numbers available. The Department of Health has listened and has banned GPs from using them. “This is why I asked the East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group what the situation is with GP practices in our area. The CCG tells me that there were seven GPs using these revenue-sharing telephone numbers: two of which have ceased to do so; four GP Practices have set up local-rate numbers for patients to use as an alternative to the expensive 084 number; and one offers to call back their patients. “While I am pleased that all our GPs realise they need to offer an alternative cheap option for patients ringing in, I want to…

Humberside Police switch off the 0845 non emergency number with effect from 1 March 2013. Following the introduction of the non emergency police contact number 101 in November 2011, Humberside Police is shortly set to switch off the 0845 6060222 telephone number as from 1 March 2013. The non emergency number 101 went live for Humberside Police in November 2011 and has been in operation in the region and other police force areas across England and Wales since that time. The 101 number was selected and designed to provide a memorable number to assist the public in contacting their local police force to report crimes and concerns that do not require an emergency response. Just over a year since its introduction, Humberside Police acknowledges the success of the 101 number and, in accordance with other Police Forces will move to make the number uniquely available for reporting non emergency incidents from 1 March 2013. The 0845 number remained active alongside the 101 number since its launch but, with the majority of the public now preferring the 101 number the decision has been made to switch off its predecessor. Andy Globe, the Command Centre Operations Manager for Humberside Police said: “The…

Council Team Up With Police In Bid To Tackle Catalytic Convertor Thefts

June 25, 2012

Come And Celebrate Diversity With Humberside Police

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is working with Humberside Police to tackle a growing problem for local businesses in the East Riding. Thieves have stolen over 200 catalytic convertors from vans or HGVs over the past 12 months, which, in effect, disables the vehicle until a replacement is fitted. This can have a major impact for businesses if their vehicles are out of use for a period of time. The precious metal content of the catalytic convertor, usually platinum, fetches around £100. The council has now purchased a number of permanent marking kits for catalytic converters to give them a unique identity. Each mark comprises a logo linked to an international security register, a unique seven-digit code and a 24-hour telephone number. Once the mark has been applied, the unique code is recorded with vehicle and owner details on the register and can be verified immediately at any time. Any business which operates vehicles that have catalytic convertors and is based in the East Riding is invited to apply to the council for a supply of free catalytic convertor marking kits by simply sending a short email to safe.communities@eastriding.gcsx.gov.uk giving the name and address and contact telephone number of their…
