GOLD GUIDE TO EVENTS 2012

To celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has created the East Riding Gold Guide to Events 2012 brochure, which is now available from a number of venues. The brochure highlights a range of events and activities taking place this year across the area and is part of the council’s aim of creating a lasting legacy for sport and culture in the East Riding. Among the events promoted are the Capturing the East Riding: Photographs from the Community exhibition, The Bridlington Poetry Festival, the Bridlington Open Volleyball Championship, Goole Beach Day and regular events such as Swim East Riding and Walking for Health. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This brochure outlines a fantastic range of sporting and cultural activities taking place at venues across the area and really does have something for everyone, from the East Riding Care Home Games to trying a new sport at one of the Beach Sports Festivals or enjoying the Precious Cargo Exhibition with its Olympic theme. “The Olympic Games will provide a global platform for the East Riding to shine and the council hopes that local residents and visitors to the…

Over 2000 Pupils To Take Part In 2012 Humber School Games

The young people of Hull and East Yorkshire are getting their own opportunity to experience what it might be like to win Gold. 2012 is not only the year of London 2012 it is also the year of the Humber School Games Festival which will take place on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th July. Over 2000 young people from primary and secondary Schools, Academies and Special Schools will compete across a weekend packed with different sports to test their stamina, skills and abilities to find out which teams will be the Humber School Champions the Year the Olympics came to Britain. Amongst the sports will be traditional Olympic sports such as Athletics and Swimming where young people will test themselves against the best the Humber has to offer, but alongside these there will also be less traditional sports such as Orienteering and Rounders where it is just as important to work as a team as it is to be the best athlete. There are thirteen sports which will form the basis of the official competition but just like the Olympics a number of demonstration sports such as Tennis will be staged so that there is a feel for what might…
