HULL : Witnesses Needed After Cyclist Is Killed In Hull

Witnesses are sought to a fatal road traffic collision that happened on a busy Hull roundabout at approximately 1600hrs on Easter Sunday (31 March 2013). A 46-year-old Hull man was travelling on a red and black coloured Raleigh pedal cycle round the Derringham Bank roundabout where Willerby Road and Spring Bank West meet. It appears that as he was cycling round the roundabout a collision occurred with a black Renault Clio, driven by a 29-year-old man. The cyclist sustained critical head injuries and was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment. He sadly died on the afternoon of Easter Monday (01 April). The driver of the car was uninjured. He was arrested in connection with the collision and interviewed by police. He has now been released on police bail pending further inquiries. New ‘Think B4U Drink’ Launched Ahead Of Christmas

A new regional campaign ‘Think B4U Drink’ was officially launched yesterday to Humberside. Yesterday Councillors, Chief Fire and Police Officers, along with Alcohol Misuse Workers and NHS staff were in attendance to understand how a range of agencies within the region; including Humberside Police, NHS, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humberside Fire and Rescue and Safer Roads Humber are working together on an alcohol awareness campaign called ‘Think B4 U Drink’. Safe drinking is a priority for all agencies involved and this campaign is the perfect outlet for all organisations to get their safe drinking messages out there to our communities. Dr Tim Allison, Director of Public Health said at yesterday’s presentation: “Alcohol misuse is a major public health issue in the United Kingdom; it places a heavy burden on health and social care services, on the criminal justice system and on society as a whole. The problems associated with heavy drinking affect a large number of people across the social spectrum and lifespan. “Alcohol is now the second biggest risk factor for cancer after smoking. Road Safety Week 2012 (19 – 25 November)

In support of Road Safety Week (19 – 25 November) Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is urging drivers to take extra care. Over the last twelve months the Service has attended over 400 road traffic collisions (RTCs) on the regions roads. The week also marks the official launch of the Think B 4 U Drink campaign in the East Riding, a multi-agency initiative involving Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Humberside Police, the NHS, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Safer Roads Humber. Each of the agencies involved in the campaign is asking members of the public to consider the effects of alcohol, from health consequences, anti-social behaviour and the increased risk of having a cooking related fire after drinking alcohol through to the dangers of drinking and driving. Louise Marritt, who is the road safety team leader for the Service, said “This campaign brings together a number of agencies that see the effects of alcohol in a number of different, and sometimes unexpected, ways. By working together we’re able to combine our resources and reach many more people and show the combined effect of alcohol on each of our organisations and on individuals.” Bad weather conditions also contribute to RTCs…

HULL : Collision On Haller Street

Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision which happened on Haller Street in Hull just after 0600hrs this morning (Friday 02 November). A silver and green coloured Suzuki, travelling westbound from Southcoates was in collision with a parked trailer. A 53-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was cut from the vehicle and taken to HRI. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The driver of the vehicle does not appear to have been injured. Police closed Haller Street, at both ends and diversions were in place along Lee Smith Street towards Hedon Road. The road re opened at around 1115hrs. Ambulance and Fire Service were also in attendance. SCUNTHORPE : Motor Cyclists Seriously Injured

An Investigation is now under way in North Lincolnshire following a road traffic collision which has left a man in hospital in a critical condition. Police received a call shortly before 0500hrs on Sunday 04 November from the Ambulance Service reporting that a man, who had been involved in a road traffic collision, was located on Willoughby Road with serious injuries. The 21-year-old man, who police believe was the sole rider of a motorcycle, was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital and has now been transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary where he remains in a critical condition. Following a number of enquires police have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with this incident. He is not believed to have been travelling on the motorcycle with the injured man but may be able to assist police with their enquiries. He remains in police custody at this time. Police would like to ask people to refrain from posting information in connection with this incident on social-networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Success for Firefighter following the World Rescue Challenge 2012

The three day event held at the ExCel London (18 – 20 October) saw Firefighters from across the globe take part in adrenaline packed challenges and daring rescues, all competing to see which country has the worlds top rescuers. The event provided the opportunity for firefighters from as far a field as Australia, Ghana and South Africa came to London to practice the vital rescue and first aid skills needed at the scene of serious incidents, like road traffic collisions. Firefighter, Shaun Rudland from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, competed in the trauma exercises along with Andy Wallace from Yorkshire Ambulance Service. The pair came fourth beating off competition from some of the most highly trained trauma teams across the world. Nick Granger, Head of operational response for Humberside Fire and Rescue, said: “Shaun and Andy performed superbly over three days with a number of highly challenging scenarios, they remained unfazed and breezed through the qualification rounds. “They held their nerve on the final challenge where the scenario had four people including unborn child trapped in a car. DRIFFIELD : RTC Pockthorpe Road

Witnesses are sought to a single-vehicle road traffic collision that happened on Friday 19 October at approximately 1625hrs. A silver coloured Vauxhall Astra motor car was travelling along Pockthorpe Road away from Kilham towards Driffield in East Yorkshire when for reasons not yet known the vehicle left the road and came to rest in a field. No other vehicles were involved. The 18-year-old Driffield man who was driving the car, and was the only person in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries, including bruises and lacerations to head and body and internal bruising. He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where he was detained for treatment. The road was closed and re-opened shortly after 2100hrs.
