Humberside Fire And Rescue Service Operational Efficiency Programme

May 17, 2013
By

Humberside Fire Authority has agreed for a number of options that have been developed for the Service’s Operational Efficiency programme to go out for engagement with staff, the public and other stakeholders. The Service saw a reduction in funding from Government of £5.3m during 2011/12 to 2014/15. Savings of £5m have already been made from non-frontline services, discretionary spend and the previous Integrated Risk Management Plan. However it is anticipated that there may be an additional budget reduction of £5m by 2018/19. Therefore, the same amount that has already been saved will need to be saved again. The Operational Efficiency Programme is looking at different ways Humberside Fire and Rescue Service could make these additional savings without compromising fire engine response standards. A fire service efficiency review by Sir Ken Knight, Former Fire and rescue Advisors, has been published today and reflects the progress Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has already made in achieving efficiencies. Chief Fire Officer Richard Hannigan, said: “There are no real surprises in Sir Ken Knight’s report. We have already made significant changes to enable us to deliver a more effective and efficient service. However, we need to do more to meet anticipated budget reductions. The…

Legal Highs : Campaign Highlights The Risk

May 8, 2013
By
East Riding Local Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is launching an awareness campaign this week which aims to highlight the risks of New Psychoactive Substances (also known as Legal Highs). The campaign aims to highlight the risks of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) and recreational substance misuse. NPS are substances used like illegal drugs, but not covered by current misuse of drugs laws, and so are legal to possess or to use. Although these drugs are marketed as legal substances, it doesn’t mean they are safe or approved for people to use. It just means that they’ve not been declared illegal to use and possess. They are still normally considered illegal to sell under medicines legislation. NPS can carry serious health risks. The chemicals they contain have, in most cases, never been used in drugs for human consumption before, so haven’t been tested to show that they are safe. Users can never be certain what they are taking and what the effects might be. Some drugs marketed as legal highs actually contain some ingredients that are illegal to possess. NPS are usually sold on internet sites as plant food, bath salts or herbal remedies. They may be labelled ‘not for human consumption’. Used alongside…

Humberside Police : Mobile Phone Driving Operation

Humberside Police : Mobile Phone Driving Operation

Ignition on, phone off is the message Humberside Police and Safer Roads Humber are sending out to those people who are intent on using their mobile phones, whilst behind the wheel. In a three-day operation, which is taking place in North East Lincolnshire from Tuesday 23 April to Thursday 25 April officers will be using a large goods vehicle tractor unit to see into the cabs of goods vehicles in an attempt to enforce a range of traffic offences and remind people of the dangers of using your mobile phone whilst driving. Research shows that if a driver uses a mobile phone to take a call, there is an increased risk of them being involved in a crash as it slows down the driver’s reaction time, making it considerably slower than a driver who has consumed alcohol. The operation will be reminding road users of this. Even using a hands free phone, which can be legally used, slows down drivers reaction times. Listening and holding a conversation takes effort, which should be directed to driving the vehicle. Using a phone to send or receive text messages whilst driving is a major distraction to the driver even if it is a…

Operation Rogue Trader

April 24, 2013

Humberside Police

As part of Operation Rogue Trader, Humberside Police are taking part in a day of action to target those people who target elderly and vulnerable people, by charging them extortionate prices for work to be carried out at their homes. Officers from across the force will be working with representatives from local Trading Standards authorities to disrupt those people who are intent on par taking in this type of criminal activity and to engage with the public to get the message out about rogue traders. Rogue traders target homes all across the force and officers will act quickly to try and catch these opportunist thieves before they target more homes. Recently in Hull a man was jailed for 16 months after being found guilty of selling fish to an elderly couple. Christopher Williams (31), sold £20 worth of fish to a couple for £2280. Williams was quickly apprehended by officers and appeared at Hull Crown Court earlier this month. Detective Inspector Simon Gawthorpe said: “This operation will see officers from across the force, working very closely with Trading Standards Officers to tackle doorstep crime and rogue traders. “The people who carry out these types of offences target the elderly and…

April 18, 2013
By
East Riding Local Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will again have staff and equipment on stand by at its depots as high winds continue to affect the East Riding, with forecasts indicating more of the same over the next 24 hours. The council’s grounds maintenance team deployed two forestry standby crews last night to operate outside normal working hours, to respond to call outs, and dealt with a number of reports of fallen trees, including two in the Hessle area, one in Seaton and one in Rawcliffe Road, Goole. John Skidmore, head of streetscene services, said: “As well as the call outs last night from residents and our partners in the emergency services, our grounds maintenance teams have also been busy today clearing fallen trees, branches and other debris from the highway network. “The council is taking a proactive approach in dealing with the current spell of high winds, with some wind speeds in excess of 50 mph, and will continue to remain vigilant until the wind decreases. “The council recently completed an asset survey of all the trees in the East Riding as part of its overall forestry management across the area.” To report a fallen tree on the highway network or…

HULL : Be Vigilant To ATM Irregularities In Hull City Centre

April 12, 2013
By
Humberside Police

Police in Hull are repeating a crime reduction message to the public following recent reports of irregularities at bank and building society ATM machines in the city centre. The reports suggest that a device is being fitted to the machines which prevents them dispensing cash requested by customers. The irregularities were reported to have happened between 2200hrs on Saturday 6 April and 1900hrs on Wednesday 10 April 2013 in the George Street/Jameson Street area of the city centre. Anyone who has experienced problems obtaining money from city centre machines in the time frame above should contact the branch concerned who should be able to identify incorrect transactions. Meanwhile, police offer the below advice in relation to the safe use of ATM cash machines. To help minimise the risk of becoming a victim of crime, police are asking people to consider the following advice: Card skimming or card cloning devices are used by fraudsters to capture credit and debit card details from unsuspecting members of the public at cash points, ticket machines and retail outlets. The terms skimming ’ or ‘cloning’ are used to describe how a criminal copies a card ’s electronic data which is then used to recreate an…
