Could You Benefit From The Coastal Communities Fund? Asks MP

April 30, 2013

Coastal Communities

At the beginning of April the Government launched the second round of funding for the Coastal Communities Fund worth £27.8 million. Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart said. “This fund is a real opportunity for businesses and organisations to be imaginative about how they can stimulate growth and employment in their communities. “None of the previous Coastal Communities Funding was allocated to schemes in Beverley and Holderness, yet much of the constituency is flanked by seaside communities that are crying out for investment. “I appeal to the businesses and organisations that are the heart and soul of our seaside communities to think about how they could make use of a funding award of £50,000 and over to create a positive impact in their area. “The application deadline is the 13th May so organisations will have to move fast to develop their applications. “The focus of the funding is on economic regeneration and growth with an emphasis on employment. Successful applications in the past have included tourism regeneration, business to business communication and employment training projects. Use Facebook to Comment on this Post

East Riding Local Plan

An interim report into flooding in Goole earlier this year will be put before East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Environment and Regeneration Overview and Scrutiny Sub-Committee, on Wednesday, 12 December, as part of the council’s ongoing investigation. On 5 and 6 July, Goole experienced flooding of highways and property at a number of locations within the town, and the council’s flood and coastal erosion risk management team started a formal investigation, using its powers under the Flood & Water Management Act 2010. Due to the complexity of the incident, the final investigation report will not be completed until summer 2013, but due to the scale of the incident, an interim report has been prepared for publication. The interim report is based on the information the council has collected so far, some of which is still subject to verification and testing, but current findings indicate that the inclement weather experienced was not an exceptional rainfall event and that a failure or fault occurred at Yorkshire Water’s Carr Lane Pumping Station leading to some flooding within the station itself. Carr Lane Pumping Station was ‘handed over’ to contractors at the time of the flooding and the exact circumstances leading to the flooding…

Representatives of the organisations which led Hull’s campaign to achieve Purple Flag status received the award last night (Tuesday) in a ceremony at Sheffield City Hall. Hull was among five towns and cities which were recognised for the safety, quality and diversity of their night-time economy. In order to achieve the standard, centres must demonstrate a range of activities, initiatives and services and offer residents and visitors an entertaining and diverse night out. Also recognised at the ceremony were Maidstone, Salisbury, Camden and Gants Hill, taking the total of Purple Flag towns and cities in the UK to 36. Hull’s campaign was led by a partnership which includes HullBID, Hull City Council, Humberside Police, Hull Citysafe and the Primary Care Trust. Purple Flag inspectors from the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) assessed the city over the weekend of the Freedom Festival in September. The ATCM announced its findings last month and confirmed Hull as only the third Purple Flag recipient in Yorkshire, emulating the success of Halifax and Sheffield. The full Purple Flag assessment report shows that Hull exceeded the standard required in 17 out of 30 criteria studied by the inspection team and the accreditation panel which followed.…

HULL : Council calls for international rail link

November 12, 2012
By

Hull City Council is pushing for direct train links to be re-established between Hull and Manchester International Airport. The move to make sure Hull is connected directly to the most notable international transport hub in the north of England has begun as the city continues its journey to put Hull at the centre of the UK’s renewables industry, and to firm up the links that could help to secure inward investment. After a constructive meeting between representatives from Manchester International Airport, Hull City Council is mounting a campaign to secure an improved direct service with more late night and early morning connections as part of the new Trans-Pennine Franchise, which is due for renewal by April 2014. The council is looking for support from MPs, other local authorities, business users and the public to lobby the Department of Transport. Councillor Steven Bayes, Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “It is simply unacceptable that a city the size of Hull does not have a direct rail service to what is the most important international transport hub in the north of England. “When trying to attract international inward investment to our development sites along the Humber Bank it is essential that we…

EAST YORKSHIRE : Realising The Potential Of Our Waterways

August 19, 2012
By

Good progress is being made by the East Riding and North Yorkshire Waterways Partnership, which brings together people and organisations committed to realising the potential of the area’s waterways and developing a long-term plan for their sustainable development. Fifteen inland waterways lie within the boundaries of the Partnership area. They are managed and maintained by a number of statutory agencies, independent trusts, navigation authorities and local amenity associations. This varied ownership is reflected in the function and nature of the waterways, which range from natural chalk streams to cruising canals, rapid rivers and hidden havens. A Heritage Lottery Fund bid is being put together for the Pocklington Canal which, if successful, will enable a range of exciting projects centred on community engagement, interpretation, training and the enhancement of the natural environment to take place. The Market Weighton Canal and River Foulness Feasibility Study is currently exploring how new waterway recreational activities can be effectively balanced by the creation of new habitats for nature and wildlife. Another project, Riverhead at Driffield, is the focus for a new, community-led partnership that is exploring the economic benefits, including tourism, which the town’s canal can offer to its community. At the Partnership’s annual conference…
