DRIFFIELD : Setting Up Driffield Local Links

A networking event has been arranged for local voluntary and community groups in and around Driffield on Wednesday 5 June 2013 between 6 and 7.30 pm at Cass Hall. Local Links is already running in other parts of the East Riding such as Bridlington, Beverley and Holderness. A variety of different groups attend such as local churches, groups from the University of the Third Age, Age UK, town and parish councils and housing associations. All local groups are welcome. The aim of the event is to give groups the opportunity to network with each other and highlight opportunities for working together or offering support. There will also be presentations from different organisations such as the Credit Union, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council funding team, and East Riding Voluntary Action Services (ERVAS), in response to issues raised by groups. This session will ask the different groups what they would like to get out of future meetings and who they would like to hear from. BBCs Stargazing Live : Observatory at Brough To Host Event

In conjunction with the BBCs Stargazing Live events, the Blackburn Leisure Astronomical Society’s Observatory at Brough in East Yorkshire will be opening its doors to the public next Friday and Saturday evening 11th-12th Jan (6:45PM – 11:00 PM). Anyone of any age, with an interest in objects beyond planet Earth is welcome to come along and chat with local society members. A slide show of images taken from the observatory will be available and the event seeks to provide advice on telescopes and imaging. Weather permitting, you will be able view the night sky through the observatory’s telescope and members telescopes. So If you are thinking about starting out in Astronomy and buying a telescope, this is the place to start. If you own a telescope and need some advice on how to set it up and get the best from it, please feel free to bring it with you and we will endeavour to help. The observatory is located in the playing field behind the Blackburn Leisure Social club at the end of Prescott Avenue off Skilling’s Lane in Brough. BEVERLEY : Information Event For Young People To Be Held

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Youth Support Service is holding an event designed to help young people not in education, employment or training to see what opportunities are available to them. The event is being held at Choices, Norwood, Beverley on Tuesday, 4 December between 11am and 2pm. There will be a chance for unemployed young people to meet local training providers and colleges as well as pick up information, advice and guidance from youth support staff on the wide range of the opportunities available. Attending the event will be representatives from East Riding Adult Education, East Riding College, East Riding Training, Hull College, Bishop Burton College, YH Training, Hull Business Training Centre, Llite plus positive activities and volunteering advisors from East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Youth Support Service. Senior youth advisor Ellanor Hurst, said: “These providers have a range of training available to suit all needs. “So if young people feel they are not ready for an apprenticeship there is no need to worry as many training providers offer foundation courses which help prepare for apprenticeships or higher level courses.” The event is free and all young people, their family, carers and friends are welcome to attend. DRIFFIELD : Beermat Event To Be Held At Showground

As part of its commitment to supporting East Riding businesses and boosting the local economy, the council will be hosting an event at the Driffield Showground on Tuesday, 23 October with business entrepreneur mentor Mike Southon as a guest speaker. The event is a collaborative effort between the council’s business services team and the Federation of Small Businesses, in association with Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) and the Yorkshire Enterprise Club. The free event will get underway from 5.30pm and is aimed at inspiring business growth and development.
