Hull Collegiate School Visit Ogino In Beverley

As children we are taught not to play with our food but pupils from Hull Collegiate School were recently asked to ignore that advice on a recent school trip to support their learning experience of Modern Foreign Languages. Year 5 pupils from the school were shown how to make sushi at East Yorkshires only Japanese Restaurant Ogino. Owned by Rieko and Julian Ogino-Stamford, the couple welcomed the pupils into their restaurant to teach them how to prepare these artistic and very tasty creations. The head chef Toshimasa, who has cooked for many famous people said; “It was exciting teaching the children not only how to make the sushi, but showing them just how tasty and healthy it can be! The kids seemed to have really enjoyed making the sushi and then of course, eating what they had made. We do hope they have gone away knowing a little bit more about Japan’s cultural background and the type of food they eat.” Modern Foreign Languages is taught at Hull Collegiate School in a very unique and innovative way to other schools. It was found that pupils learning languages at the Senior school sometimes lacked motivation as they may have studied French,…

Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Kings Mill is a thriving and popular school for children with special needs and sometimes complex learning difficulties. It has been at the heart of Driffield for about 50 years, but draws children from a wide catchment area of rural East Riding. “The school buildings are too small for the numbers of children currently on roll and there is a long waiting list. “The project would see a…

A budding young artist from York has discovered that her skills and imagination have earned her top prize in a competition. 10-year old Alyssa Hood, who attends Wiggington Primary School, was one of over 300 pupils to enter NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG’s) ‘Design a Logo’ competition. Late last year, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils from schools across the area were invited to take part in the competition which asked them to create an image which depicted what ‘health and happiness’ means to them. Now, as well as having the pleasure of seeing her logo form part of the  NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group’s forthcoming corporate design style, Alyssa has also won herself a £50 sports voucher and £500 in equipment vouchers for her school. Dr Cath Snape, a York GP and Member of the  NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group’s Shadow Governing Body revealed the chosen design to an audience of eager 9 to 11 year olds at Wiggington Primary earlier this week, after giving them a talk on what it’s like to work as a doctor.
