East Yorkshire Council

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of local construction company, Hobson & Porter, as the main contractor for the £6million Haltemprice Centre project, with the works scheduled to start at the end of April. The scheme, which forms part of the council’s capital investment programme, was granted planning permission in December last year and will improve access to service provision by bringing a number of local services under one roof, including Anlaby’s library and customer service centre, resulting in reduced running costs as well as addressing a number of maintenance requirements and improving the venue’s energy efficiency. Initial works will focus on the new extension to the rear of the building, which will become the main entrance, and refurbishment of outdoor pitches and creation of additional parking spaces. Work will be phased to minimise disruption, and will take approximately 20 months to complete, with the final element of the works completed in autumn 2014. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The creation of the Haltemprice Centre to provide a host of services under one roof demonstrates the commitment of this council in continuing to provide high-quality services for our…

The library will close at the end of business, at 7pm, on 2 April and will reopen, at 2pm, on 14 May. The South Cave Library facility will be unavailable during the closure; however, alternative libraries are available at North Ferriby and the Petuaria Centre, in Brough. Residents can also renew library books online at www.eastriding.gov.uk/libraries Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council is delighted to be investing in its library services at a time when other authorities are having to cut back and close facilities. “The council understands the value our residents place in having access to high-quality library provision and, whilst the temporary closure may cause some short-term inconvenience, the long term benefits will be enjoyed for years to come at this popular venue.” Use Facebook to Comment on this Post

E-safety Award For East Riding Primary School

An East Riding primary school has been recognised for their commitment to e-safety after becoming the first school in Yorkshire to receive a national award. Anlaby Acre Heads Primary School is one of just 47 schools in the country to be awarded the 360 degree safe e-safety mark after their e-safety provision was inspected by representatives from the South West Grid for Learning. After meeting with staff, pupils, parents and carers as well as governors, assessors found that the school provided a high level of protection for users through physical aspects of technology as well as education. The report said: “There is a very pro-active e-safety team successfully led by ICT subject leader, Michelle Radge, and there is a clear commitment to e-safety by the governors, senior leadership team, staff, children and all members of the school community, including parents. “The school’s technical support provider, Primary Tec, provides a robust and effective infrastructure that is effective in ensuring the e-safety of users within the school.” Lead assessor for the 360 degree safe e-safety mark, Ron Richards, congratulated the school on its success and said: “It is reassuring to know the school has put a lot of thought and effort into…

The building of the PET/CT Scanner at Castle Hill Hospital has commenced on 22nd January 2013 despite the snowy weather. Phase 2a of the Daisy Appeal, the PET/CT scanning centre, is currently being built at Castle Hill and will set to be finished on 20th December 2013. The PET/CT scanner will compliment the current imaging devices while offering a new diagnostic technique. This will offer increased detection capabilities of cancers, along with cardiac and neurological diseases. It will be a breakthrough for the future of diagnostics and will aim to become a leading scanning modality. Prof Stafford states, “The aim of the scanner is that once opened it will be available 24/7 which is different from what existing services offer at the moment. It will also allow patients to have other types of scans which are crucial for developing research in the future.” The centre is being built to help patients get benefits from scanning at a much earlier stage than ordinary scanners that are currently out there. An example being if a patient has dementia the PET/CT scanner will be able to diagnose the disease at a much earlier stage. This means the patient can be treated quicker and…
