Graham Stuart Commends Partnership For Success Of Dredging

Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart has commended the work of the South Holderness Consortium of Drainage Boards for the work they have done to dredge Stone Creek and Hedon Haven. Graham Stuart said, “This dredging is the product of a huge amount of work from many different organisations, and the Consortium of Drainage Boards should be congratulated for their energy and expertise to bring this to fruition. “The project has cost in excess of £100,000 and has been funded by money from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Yorkshire Water Community Fund, Hedon Town Council, The Internal Drainage Boards, The Environment Agency and The Crown Estate. “The group initially struggled to obtain the licenses needed to undertake this work, and I invited them to London to meet with Defra Minister, Richard Benyon to highlight to him the problems they were having. I am delighted that these issues have been resolved and that the work has been completed. East Yorkshire Council

Goole Renaissance will, this week, take delivery of two newly-manufactured traditional market barrows, hand-crafted by Ken Rumney who volunteers for the town’s Sobriety Project. The barrows were made in the joinery shop at the Sobriety Project, overseen by Ken and assisted by young people on placement. A public handover will take place at The Junction on Wednesday, 29 May at 1pm, attended By Councillor Craig Taylor, mayor of Goole. Goole Renaissance bid against other towns in the East Riding to obtain a grant from East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Renaissance Small Projects Fund. The bid was successful and £1,000 was granted to be spent on design, manufacture and purchase of two traditional style market barrows to kick start and match fund the ‘Go 2 Goole’ Portas scheme. The barrows represent a significant investment by the renaissance partnership and will be managed by Goole Town Council, which also operates the market. Although Portas funding has not paid for the manufacture of the barrows, Business in Goole has contributed to the cost of ‘I Love Goole’ promotional material on each barrow. Chairman, Andy Carroll, will be representing Business in Goole as the barrows are a contribution to the enhancement of the town…

East Yorkshire Council

The council is now underway with a £2 million surface dressing programme that will see around 650,000 square metres of highway resurfaced between now and August. Work began last week on sections of the network in Holderness and this week sees maintenance teams working nights on the A1079 at Arras Hill, near Market Weighton, and the A1035 Tickton Bypass, so as to minimise disruption to motorists and the travelling public. Surface dressing forms part of the council’s proactive approach to the maintenance of the 3,500km of highway network in the East Riding and takes place every year on both urban and rural roads. Surface dressing has four main purposes: to provide texture and skid resistance to an existing surface, to seal a road against water, to stop disintegration and to provide a uniform appearance for a patched road. Councillor Chris Matthews, cabinet portfolio holder for infrastructure, highways and emergency planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Ensuring the roads and infrastructure of the East Riding, as a whole, is in the best possible order long term is a top priority for the council. “Surface dressing provides a value for money and proactive approach by sealing roads, reducing reactive repair…
