East Riding Local Plan

A networking event has been arranged for local voluntary and community groups in and around Driffield on Wednesday, 5 June, 6-7.30pm, at Cass Hall. Local Links is already running in other parts of the East Riding, such as Driffield, Beverley and Holderness. A variety of different groups attend, such as local churches, U3A groups, Help the Aged, town and parish councils and housing associations. All local groups are welcome. The aim of the event is to give groups the opportunity to network with each other and highlight opportunities for working together or offering support. There are also presentations from different organisations, such as the Credit Union, the council’s funding team and the East Riding Voluntary Action Service (ERVAS), in response to issues raised by groups. This session will ask the different groups what they would like to get out of future meetings and who they would like to hear from. They will each be given the chance to promote their group and explain what they do. A light tea and refreshments will also be available. If you would like to attend, contact Vicky Neilan, vicky.bolton@eastriding.gov.uk or 07785721129, to confirm your place. Use Facebook to Comment on this Post

East Riding Local Plan

Are you aged 16 years or over and looking for an apprenticeship? Then let East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Employment and Skills Team boost your chances of finding an apprenticeship. The team is looking for suitably-motivated people to join their apprenticeship pool. The apprenticeship pool is for people who are applying for apprenticeships now, but struggling to get interviews. The team works with local employers who have apprentice vacancies and prepare people for the opportunities that they find. They currently have vacancies with local organisations for apprenticeships to start during May 2013. To apply for the apprenticeship pool you must come along with a current CV to the Employment and Skills Team Apprenticeship Pool Open Day on Tuesday, 7 May, 10am-2.30pm, at the Treasure House, in Champney Road, Beverley. Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economic development, tourism and rural issues at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This open day is a great opportunity for local people who are looking for apprenticeships to come along and get more help with finding vacancies. We are also working with local employers who have apprentice vacancies now, so we’ll be keen to find candidates who are suitable to fill these posts…

Could You Benefit From The Coastal Communities Fund? Asks MP

April 30, 2013
By
Coastal Communities

At the beginning of April the Government launched the second round of funding for the Coastal Communities Fund worth £27.8 million. Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart said. “This fund is a real opportunity for businesses and organisations to be imaginative about how they can stimulate growth and employment in their communities. “None of the previous Coastal Communities Funding was allocated to schemes in Beverley and Holderness, yet much of the constituency is flanked by seaside communities that are crying out for investment. “I appeal to the businesses and organisations that are the heart and soul of our seaside communities to think about how they could make use of a funding award of £50,000 and over to create a positive impact in their area. “The application deadline is the 13th May so organisations will have to move fast to develop their applications. “The focus of the funding is on economic regeneration and growth with an emphasis on employment. Successful applications in the past have included tourism regeneration, business to business communication and employment training projects. Use Facebook to Comment on this Post

Bransholme Residents Are Targeted By Police

April 30, 2013
By
Humberside Police

Four Bransholme streets will be targeted by the Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Community Wardens, ASB Team, Environmental Team, Police Volunteers and Neighbourhood Network on Tuesday 30 April, in an attempt to reduce the number of burglary victims in the area. There was recently a spike in-house and shed/garage burglaries in the North Carr area, so the Neighbourhood Policing Team has taken the lead to tackle crime and give out crime prevention material and advice. If successful, the scheme will be rolled out across the city, as it is hoped that the residents will take on board the hints and tips given by all the partner agencies, who aim to protect the community and deter criminals from offending. Work is on-going in the community, to meet the bi-annual targets, which local residents set the emergency services and Hull City Council. PC Steve Hepworth from the North Carr Neighbourhood Policing Team, is leading the initiative, which will be operating between 0930hrs and 1530hrs. A second multi-agency event is planned for 21 June 2013, but it will take place in a different location in North Carr. The Neighbourhood Policing Team works closely with the local authority, community groups and businesses, particularly in…

Operation Rogue Trader

April 24, 2013
By
Humberside Police

As part of Operation Rogue Trader, Humberside Police are taking part in a day of action to target those people who target elderly and vulnerable people, by charging them extortionate prices for work to be carried out at their homes. Officers from across the force will be working with representatives from local Trading Standards authorities to disrupt those people who are intent on par taking in this type of criminal activity and to engage with the public to get the message out about rogue traders. Rogue traders target homes all across the force and officers will act quickly to try and catch these opportunist thieves before they target more homes. Recently in Hull a man was jailed for 16 months after being found guilty of selling fish to an elderly couple. Christopher Williams (31), sold £20 worth of fish to a couple for £2280. Williams was quickly apprehended by officers and appeared at Hull Crown Court earlier this month. Detective Inspector Simon Gawthorpe said: “This operation will see officers from across the force, working very closely with Trading Standards Officers to tackle doorstep crime and rogue traders. “The people who carry out these types of offences target the elderly and…
