East Riding Local Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will host a public exhibition at Driffield Community Centre, West Garth, on Tuesday, 16 April, 10am-4pm, to explain proposals for remodelling Kings Mill Special School, for which the council has applied for planning approval. Representatives of the school and the council’s design team will be on hand to explain the project and answer any questions. Councillors Barbara Hall and Symon Fraser will also be in attendance as will governors of the school. The exhibition is open to parents, neighbours and the general public and provides an opportunity for people to provide constructive feedback. They can also learn how to respond to the planning authority once the project comes online on the council’s website. Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Kings Mill is a thriving and popular school for children with special needs and sometimes complex learning difficulties. It has been at the heart of Driffield for about 50 years, but draws children from a wide catchment area of rural East Riding. “The school buildings are too small for the numbers of children currently on roll and there is a long waiting list. “The project would see a…

Raleigh Helps To Get The Wheels Moving In The East Riding

Since October 2012, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Road Safety Team has been working very closely with a number of primary and secondary schools across the authority, promoting cycling and gaining momentum in delivering the Cycling Friendly School Award. The aim of the award is to create a cycle-friendly environment to encourage more teachers and children to cycle both for leisure and to and from school. The award also helps each school identify and overcome any barriers to cycling, such as a need for additional storage, enhanced training or developing practical skills. East Riding of Yorkshire Council is joining forces with Raleigh, one of the oldest bicycle companies in the world, to help this happen. Raleigh is supporting this new initiative by donating bikes and helmets as competition prizes for schools taking part in the award. Councillor Symon Fraser, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Having Raleigh’s support for the awards is a huge bonus. Raleigh’s willingness to assist can only help ensure the continued success of the initiative and hopefully an increase in cycling in the region. The council will be offering additional training to any pupil, teacher or parent…

Humberside Police

Detectives in Hull are warning people to be cautious about who you let into you into your homes, as criminals are trying a number of methods to gain entry to addresses. Frequently, police are called by members of the local community in Hull who have had items from their homes stolen by people who come to their doors claiming to be there to carry out home repairs and claim that they have been sent by companies to check things at the address. Often these people are criminals who target the elderly and vulnerable to try to steal money from their homes. It can be by either carrying out false repairs, or by distracting them and stealing their purses, wallets and handbags. Graham Stuart Reminds Royal Mail To Leave Parcels With Neighbours

December 10, 2012
By
Graham Stuart

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley & Holderness, said “With Christmas coming it’s really important that people get their Royal Mail items as quickly as possible. It’s extremely frustrating to find that your eagerly awaited package has been taken back to the delivery office.” “The good news is that for the first time Royal Mail is able to leave items with neighbours. Royal Mail asked their regulator, Ofcom, for permission to change the way they do things and the new Delivery to a Neighbour scheme started on 1 October. This new scheme is a great new service for my constituents and that’s why I contacted Royal Mail and asked them to make sure that items are left with neighbours wherever possible, to save people the trouble of arranging a re-delivery, or travelling to the delivery office to collect them. Graham Stuart added; “At this time of year it’s especially important to know what’s going to happen to any bulky items that won’t fit through your letterbox when you’re not in to answer the bell. If your neighbours aren’t at home either, the postman will put a card through your letterbox called Something for you. This card tells you your options which…

Family Issue Statement Following Inquest Into Death Of Jessica Blake

Jessica Blake

Following the inquest on Friday into the death of 14 year old Jessica Blake, her parents: Alison and Dave Blake have issued the following statement: “Not long after Jess’ death we were asked, as part of a Police statement, just what affect her death had had on us. At the time my answer was short, blunt and not particularly polite. Whilst the pain is still raw, I have had what has felt like a long time to dwell on that loss. “It seems now that there were two very different sides to Jess. There was the sad and depressed teenager she felt inside, who was so far from the Jess we knew, who was happy and playful, loving and full of life. I’ve had time to stare at the empty space on the sofa and listen to the silence, to watch the now spare chair at the table and feel the forlorn shudder as I remember her in my arms and know I’ll never feel another hug from her again. “On Sunday 26th of August I identified Jess’ body, a week or so later I said goodbye to her in a chapel of rest. I ironed the cadet uniform she…
