Humberside Police

As part of Operation Rogue Trader, Humberside Police are taking part in a day of action to target those people who target elderly and vulnerable people, by charging them extortionate prices for work to be carried out at their homes. Officers from across the force will be working with representatives from local Trading Standards authorities to disrupt those people who are intent on par taking in this type of criminal activity and to engage with the public to get the message out about rogue traders. Rogue traders target homes all across the force and officers will act quickly to try and catch these opportunist thieves before they target more homes. Recently in Hull a man was jailed for 16 months after being found guilty of selling fish to an elderly couple. Christopher Williams (31), sold £20 worth of fish to a couple for £2280. Williams was quickly apprehended by officers and appeared at Hull Crown Court earlier this month. East Riding of Yorkshire Council is looking for people to come forward and explore the possibility of becoming foster carers. The council already recruit about 10 foster families a year but need more to help with the rising number of children who need foster care. Figures up to March 2012 show that in the East Riding there are a total of 131 foster families and 187 fostered children. This is broken down into: * 102 mainstream foster families * 29 family or friends who foster * 141 children are in mainstream foster placements * 46 looked after children who are placed with families or friends. Since April, 2011, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has approved 22 mainstream foster carers and has approved six family or friend foster carers. At the start of a two-week Foster Care Fortnight national campaign, officers are hoping that people will think seriously about the possibility of becoming foster carers which could help change the lives of young people. There will be stands at venues across the East Riding where people will be able to speak to members of the council’s fostering team to find out more information and dispel any misconceptions or myths about who…

Happy New Year everyone!  We hope you’ve all made a new year’s resolution to travel more by public transport and less by car.  As well as the obvious benefits to the environment and your bank balance, scientists have even found that getting the bus rather than driving a car can make you healthier.  So why not forward this newsletter on to friends and family, and encourage them to try the bus in 2012? Petuaria Express & Services 155/156/151/152/153: Hull – Brough – Elloughton – Gilberdyke – Howden – Goole Following last year’s consultations with passengers, we are making changes to our bus services in the Brough – Howden – Goole area from Sunday 5 February. The Petuaria Express will be extended to Howden and Goole, and some journeys will serve North Cave and South Cave instead of Newport and Gilberdyke.  There will be more Petuaria Express journeys, and they will now run on Sundays too.  However, there will be fewer Service 155 journeys, and Service 156 will be withdrawn. Service 151, 152 & 153 journey times will change. There will also be improvements to Service 144 and Wicstun Express Service X4 (more details below). For more information on any of these changes, to pick up…
