What's Afoot ? Great New Guided Walking Holidays For 2013/14

John Carter, long time presenter of TV’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ programme and seasoned globetrotter explores some exciting new short and long haul guided walking destinations across the globe. I learned the hard way that it is never wise to base your travel plans on a unique event, no matter how spectacular and “unmissable” that event may be. It happened some years ago when I travelled with a TV crew to Siena in Italy, for the specific purpose of filming the Palio – the horse race around the Piazza del Campo. It was to be the highlight of our film with its action, colour, noise and excitement. Unfortunately torrential rain caused the whole thing to be postponed and our grand plan – not to mention what would have been the best sequence in the entire film – disappeared down the city’s storm drains. That memory of everything going disastrously awry was triggered when I spotted a super holiday to Siena and Florence which is featured in the latest collection of holidays from Ramblers Worldwide. Sensibly, the organisers have avoided the high summer, when the city is extremely crowded, with or without the horse race, and provide their clients with the…

Graham Stuart Cardiac Risk in the Young Campaign

Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart is supporting a campaign to raise awareness of cardiac risk in young people. Graham Stuart said, “On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May, young people between the age of 14 and 35 are invited to go to Hornsea School and Language College for an electrocardiogram (ECG). This is a quick and painless procedure that records the electrical activity of the heart. Places are filling up fast so please go to www.testmyheart.org to book an appointment. “I will be attending this event that has been organised by Richard and Donna Fell who tragically lost their son Josh to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). This is a term used to describe genetic heart rhythm abnormalities that can cause sudden death in young, apparently healthy people. Up to 600 people under the age of 30 die in the UK each year from undiagnosed cardiac failure.” Richard and Donna Fell said “The CRY (Cardiac Risk In The Young) Screening event is being held in memory of our son Josh who we lost in June 2011 aged 15. Once we found out that Josh had died from SADS we got in touch with CRY and we decided…

Marion Scott : Police Continue To Search For Missing Lady

December 31, 2012

Marion Scott

Police in Lincolnshire assisted by members of the public and volunteer services have continued their searches for missing Marion Scott throughout today. Unfortunately Marion is still missing. We have covered all the areas that Marion likes to visit locally and the areas where it is felt that Marian may have been capable of reaching. We are still asking local residents, farmers, property owners and businesses to search their land and buildings. We are also still asking for the help of the public in respect of any sightings of Marion or any suggestions as to where she may be. Marion’s family are terribly worried about her and feel the media coverage has not sufficiently conveyed the fact that she has dementia, suffers from memory loss and can be confused. We are extremely grateful to all the volunteers who have shown concern for Marion and assisted with the searches. Tomorrow (Monday 31st December) we will be reviewing our actions so far and renewing our efforts to find Marion. Presently, we are not planning any searches, which require the help of public volunteers. If there is a need for such action, we have the names and contact details of all those persons who…
