
A Goole resident has received a criminal record after admitting benefit fraud. Darren Mark Knott, aged 39, formerly of Pasture Road, Goole, appeared before Beverley Magistrates on Monday, 7th January 2013. He pleaded guilty to making false statements in order to obtain an entitlement to housing benefit, council tax benefit and job seekers allowance, contrary to Section 112(1)(a) of the Social Security Administration Act 1992. Investigators from both East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Department for Work and Pensions established that Mr Knott had failed to declare capital in excess of £80,000. Darren Knott received a £400 fine and was ordered to pay £100 towards legal costs. He will also have to repay the £4,557.10 benefit he fraudulently received during the period November 2011 to July 2012. Richard Johnson, sanctions officer, said: “Those who choose to deliberately commit benefit fraud should be aware that it is only a matter of time before they are brought before the courts.
