Officers, staff and police mascots ‘Bob the Dog’ and ‘Billy the Burglar’ will be partaking in this year’s Hull Carnival, giving out free crime reduction advice, free UV pens and leaflets and playing hoopla with children so they can win a police themed prize. Riverside Neighbourhood Policing Team PCSOs and Police Constables will also be available to listen to any concerns or questions which people may have about their local community at the Media Van in the rosebowl area of Queens Gardens in Hull City Centre between 1100am and 430pm. Free cycle engraving will be on offer to anyone over the age of 16 years old (anyone under 16 will need to have permission from an adult), or appointments can be made for local NPT staff to visit a household to conduct a free security survey and property mark in the comfort of people’s own home, at a time convenient to the individual. An event to celebrate and recognise diversity is being hosted by Humberside Police’s Forum (internal staff support group). Members of the local community are invited to attend the function supported by Mr Chus to encourage local communities to become involved with policing in the Humberside area and to make a real difference within the communities in which they live. The main purpose of the event is to bring the police service and local communities together. Local people from a wide range of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to attend the event in the evening of Wednesday 19 June to celebrate the diverse cultures of communities within East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. The Robins have teamed up with club sponsor City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) to run a scheme that will recognise the selfless work carried out by carers in the local community. The ‘KR Cares’ initiative, which is being run to celebrate the upcoming launch of a new home for the Carers Information and Support Service on King Edward Street on Thursday 6th June, will see nominated carers receive special invitations to the Robins’ clash against the Huddersfield Giants the day after – including the chance to step out onto the pitch at MS3 Craven Park for a special photo opportunity, along with a signed memento of the day – all courtesy of CHCP CIC. Once it’s opened, new Carers Building will give local carers access to a whole host of support services and expert advice all under one roof. There will be stalls and games for all the family to enjoy and also an opportunity to gain valuable fire and road safety advice. Making People Safer On The Region’s Roads

Throughout May the Think B 4 U Drink partnership is focusing on helping people to stay safe on the roads in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The campaign is run by a range of agencies within the Humber region including Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Humberside Police, NHS, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Safer Roads Humber. The overall aim is to reduce the effects of alcohol on individuals, their families and friends, and the local community. During the month the partnership will focus on different groups of drivers, starting with young people during National Road Safety Week (6-12 May), and the effect alcohol can have on their safety and their ability to drive. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, one of the partners, will be running a comprehensive programme of events throughout the week. The Service’s road safety team will also be utilising the ‘Distraction to Destruction’ literature during each event. On the evening of Wednesday 8 May the Service will be supporting the Hull College Car Night, utilising both the interactive iCar crash simulator and our sponsored Bikesafe motorcycle. Operation Rogue Trader

As part of Operation Rogue Trader, Humberside Police are taking part in a day of action to target those people who target elderly and vulnerable people, by charging them extortionate prices for work to be carried out at their homes. Officers from across the force will be working with representatives from local Trading Standards authorities to disrupt those people who are intent on par taking in this type of criminal activity and to engage with the public to get the message out about rogue traders. Rogue traders target homes all across the force and officers will act quickly to try and catch these opportunist thieves before they target more homes. Recently in Hull a man was jailed for 16 months after being found guilty of selling fish to an elderly couple. Christopher Williams (31), sold £20 worth of fish to a couple for £2280. Williams was quickly apprehended by officers and appeared at Hull Crown Court earlier this month. Detective Inspector Simon Gawthorpe said: “This operation will see officers from across the force, working very closely with Trading Standards Officers to tackle doorstep crime and rogue traders. “The people who carry out these types of offences target the elderly and…

Beverley Integrated Transport Plan Contractor Appointed

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Birse Civils as the main contractor to deliver the £22million Beverley Integrated Transport Plan. Beverley Integrated Transport Plan received Full Approval from the Department for Transport (DfT) last month, with works scheduled to start this summer and anticipated to be complete by early 2015. The scheme, which will be one of the largest capital investments ever undertaken by the council, will include the long-awaited and much-needed Beverley Southern Relief Road (BSRR), amendments to the Grovehill junction, Swinemoor roundabout and Flemingate level crossing and signing works to reclassify the road network in and around Beverley. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The appointment of a contractor for this important highways scheme is another significant milestone passed and in Birse Civils Limited we have a Yorkshire contractor delivering the project, providing a timely boost for the construction industry. “Beverley Integrated Transport Plan represents excellent value for money and will result in improved transport infrastructure for Beverley in the long-term, plus immediate benefits such as the involvement of the local business community in its delivery, safeguarding jobs and providing the opportunity for local young people…
