Humberside Police : Mobile Phone Driving Operation

Ignition on, phone off is the message Humberside Police and Safer Roads Humber are sending out to those people who are intent on using their mobile phones, whilst behind the wheel. In a three-day operation, which is taking place in North East Lincolnshire from Tuesday 23 April to Thursday 25 April officers will be using a large goods vehicle tractor unit to see into the cabs of goods vehicles in an attempt to enforce a range of traffic offences and remind people of the dangers of using your mobile phone whilst driving. Research shows that if a driver uses a mobile phone to take a call, there is an increased risk of them being involved in a crash as it slows down the driver’s reaction time, making it considerably slower than a driver who has consumed alcohol. The operation will be reminding road users of this. Even using a hands free phone, which can be legally used, slows down drivers reaction times. Listening and holding a conversation takes effort, which should be directed to driving the vehicle. Using a phone to send or receive text messages whilst driving is a major distraction to the driver even if it is a…

Humberside Police

As part of Operation Rogue Trader, Humberside Police are taking part in a day of action to target those people who target elderly and vulnerable people, by charging them extortionate prices for work to be carried out at their homes. Officers from across the force will be working with representatives from local Trading Standards authorities to disrupt those people who are intent on par taking in this type of criminal activity and to engage with the public to get the message out about rogue traders. Rogue traders target homes all across the force and officers will act quickly to try and catch these opportunist thieves before they target more homes. Recently in Hull a man was jailed for 16 months after being found guilty of selling fish to an elderly couple. Christopher Williams (31), sold £20 worth of fish to a couple for £2280. Williams was quickly apprehended by officers and appeared at Hull Crown Court earlier this month. Detective Inspector Simon Gawthorpe said: “This operation will see officers from across the force, working very closely with Trading Standards Officers to tackle doorstep crime and rogue traders. “The people who carry out these types of offences target the elderly and…

Help To Buy Scheme Now Available Across Linden Homes Region

A new Government scheme to help first time buyers and existing homeowners purchase their brand new dream home with just a five per cent deposit is now up and running. The Help to Buy initiative was announced in last month’s budget – and came into force on 1 April 2013. The scheme is the latest in a number of Government incentives to assist people to buy a new build home. Help To Buy is already proving popular among potential customers across the Linden region, and available to purchasers around North East Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and East Riding. Here’s how it works: - Help to buy is available on new build homes only. - Purchasers need a minimum five per cent deposit. - All homebuyers could be eligible, not just first-time buyers. - The government will lend you up to 20 per cent of the value of your property through an equity loan, which can be repaid at any time or on the sale of your home. - Buyers will only need to secure up to a 75 per cent mortgage from a bank or building society. - The maximum home purchase is £600,000. Linden Homes sales director Steve Woomble said: “Despite…
