Humberside Fire And Rescue Service Operational Efficiency Programme

May 17, 2013
By

Humberside Fire Authority has agreed for a number of options that have been developed for the Service’s Operational Efficiency programme to go out for engagement with staff, the public and other stakeholders. The Service saw a reduction in funding from Government of £5.3m during 2011/12 to 2014/15. Savings of £5m have already been made from non-frontline services, discretionary spend and the previous Integrated Risk Management Plan. However it is anticipated that there may be an additional budget reduction of £5m by 2018/19. Therefore, the same amount that has already been saved will need to be saved again. The Operational Efficiency Programme is looking at different ways Humberside Fire and Rescue Service could make these additional savings without compromising fire engine response standards. A fire service efficiency review by Sir Ken Knight, Former Fire and rescue Advisors, has been published today and reflects the progress Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has already made in achieving efficiencies. Chief Fire Officer Richard Hannigan, said: “There are no real surprises in Sir Ken Knight’s report. We have already made significant changes to enable us to deliver a more effective and efficient service. However, we need to do more to meet anticipated budget reductions. The…

Making People Safer On The Region’s Roads

May 8, 2013
By

Throughout May the Think B 4 U Drink partnership is focusing on helping people to stay safe on the roads in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The campaign is run by a range of agencies within the Humber region including Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Humberside Police, NHS, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Safer Roads Humber. The overall aim is to reduce the effects of alcohol on individuals, their families and friends, and the local community. During the month the partnership will focus on different groups of drivers, starting with young people during National Road Safety Week (6-12 May), and the effect alcohol can have on their safety and their ability to drive. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, one of the partners, will be running a comprehensive programme of events throughout the week. The Service’s road safety team will also be utilising the ‘Distraction to Destruction’ literature during each event. On the evening of Wednesday 8 May the Service will be supporting the Hull College Car Night, utilising both the interactive iCar crash simulator and our sponsored Bikesafe motorcycle. On Thursday 9 and Friday 10 May the ‘drive4life’ presentation will be delivered to motor vehicle students at Hull College’s…
