Traveller Site On Woodhill Way Refurbishment Works Proposal

May 24, 2013
By
East Yorkshire Council

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has secured funding from the Government to allow for the refurbishment of the existing traveller site at Woodhill Way, in Cottingham. Works will include the replacement of all utility blocks on the site and improvements to the existing waste water system. The refurbishment of the site will also allow for one additional pitch to be provided, helping to meet an identified need in the area. All works will be contained within the existing site. A temporary site will be created near to the Skidby roundabout to allow for the refurbishment works to be undertaken. This site was previously used as a compound for the recent A164 Humber Bridge to Beverley Route Improvement Scheme. Upon completion of the refurbishment of Woodhill Way, the temporary site will be reinstated to its previous open nature. A planning application for this proposal, including the temporary site at Skidby roundabout, is due to be submitted in the middle of June. Subject to approval, it is intended that a formal start on site will be made in November, with completion of works due in December 2014. The council has arranged a public drop-in session to provide more information on this proposal.…

Council Welcome Transport Secretary For Completion Of A164

May 13, 2013

East Yorkshire Council

The Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin MP, Secretary of State for Transport, is today visiting the East Riding to mark the completion of highway works on the A164 and speak to users of the council’s Wheels to Work Scheme, in Goole, which was funded by the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). The £10 million A164 Humber Bridge to Beverley Route Improvement Scheme, to which the council contributed £2.3 million, began in spring 2012 and was designed to reduce congestion, particularly at peak intervals, and improve traffic flows for up to 35,000 vehicles using the road each day. As well as the installation of a section of dual carriageway, between Willerby and Castle Hill, the council’s contractor, Jackson Civil Engineering, also reconfigured four roundabouts and constructed lengths of new footpath/cycleway. To commemorate the occasion, Mr McLoughlin, Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Adam Tuke, contracts director for Jackson Civil Engineering, will be planting a tree at the site. In the afternoon, the Transport Secretary will be visiting Goole to view one of the schemes being funded by the £1.8 million the council successfully secured from the LSTF for the ‘Get Moving Goole’…

Humber LEP

The chairman of the Humber LEP (Humber Local Enterprise Partnership) today acknowledged the strides made by the organisation in its first year and called for continued cohesive action to help build the Humber into the UKs ‘Energy Estuary’. Lord Haskins was speaking a year since the board of directors was formally appointed, with the LEP revealing an impressive list of achievements as part of an annual review which is published today. He said: “In our first year we have really started to build up a head of steam. We have helped secure the largest Enterprise Zone in the country along with £65m of Regional Growth Funding. We have also helped secure a reduction in Humber Bridge tolls and received national recognition for our renewable-energy potential. “This momentum will now be carried forward through the delivery of our five-year plan along with our work on Lord Heseltine’s pathfinder proposal for new pioneering ways of economic development and the application for City Deal status, which would see powers devolved to the region. “The progress made so far is a result of businesses, councils and education working together to achieve common goals. We must continue to develop those close bonds for the Humber to reach…
