Humberside Police

Hull’s Community Cohesion Officers are spreading the word, that Humberside Police will not tolerate Hate Crime, and nor should anyone else. A short film by Polish production company Astor Productions, has been commissioned by Humberside Police and partner agencies, in a bid to educate people in diverse communities about what Hate Crime is; what to look out for; where to report it and who can help. The film, which is three and a half minutes long, follows the journey of a woman (Coronation Street actress Amy Forest) who witnesses three incidents, where a man has verbally abused three different types of minority groups. The lead character contemplates whether to call the police and report the incident. She questions what constitutes Hate Crime, who to turn to for support, and how she can report the inexcusable behaviour she has seen. The DVD was commissioned by the Police to complement a presentation which is delivered to Hull based diverse communities, including: Black and Ethnic Minority, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transexual (LGBT), faith and religious groups, youth groups, the elderly, people with immigration status and disabled people. If successful, the scheme will be rolled out across the force area. Funding for the project…

Bransholme Residents Are Targeted By Police

April 30, 2013
By
Humberside Police

Four Bransholme streets will be targeted by the Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Community Wardens, ASB Team, Environmental Team, Police Volunteers and Neighbourhood Network on Tuesday 30 April, in an attempt to reduce the number of burglary victims in the area. There was recently a spike in-house and shed/garage burglaries in the North Carr area, so the Neighbourhood Policing Team has taken the lead to tackle crime and give out crime prevention material and advice. If successful, the scheme will be rolled out across the city, as it is hoped that the residents will take on board the hints and tips given by all the partner agencies, who aim to protect the community and deter criminals from offending. Work is on-going in the community, to meet the bi-annual targets, which local residents set the emergency services and Hull City Council. PC Steve Hepworth from the North Carr Neighbourhood Policing Team, is leading the initiative, which will be operating between 0930hrs and 1530hrs. A second multi-agency event is planned for 21 June 2013, but it will take place in a different location in North Carr. The Neighbourhood Policing Team works closely with the local authority, community groups and businesses, particularly in…

By
East Riding Local Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Hull City Council have welcomed news that the Environment Agency has approved the grant funding application for a major flood alleviation scheme that will reduce the risk of flooding for around 8,000 properties. The £14.4 million Willerby and Derringham Flood Alleviation Scheme (WaDFAS) will consist of a series of lagoons at Rawdales Farm, Robson’s Cottage, Albion Mills and Carr Lane, which will hold around 205,000 cubic metres of water and was granted planning permission earlier this year. The next stages of the project will be to finalise the detailed design, procure a contractor and acquire the land necessary for the scheme, preferably by negotiation, although a compulsory purchase order is being prepared and anticipated to be published in spring/summer. Construction works are currently anticipated to start in summer 2014 and be complete in summer 2015. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “I think I speak for both residents of the East Riding and Hull, when I say how welcome the news is that the funding for this important scheme has been secured and, with planning permission approved, that its delivery cannot happen soon enough. “The council takes the…

Ensuring Quality In Child And Adolescent Mental Health Services

January 25, 2013
By
NHS East Riding

Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council are actively seeking views of young people, their carers and parents on plans to enhance local specialist mental health services for children and young people. There are approximately 135,000 children and young people aged 0- 19 in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. From time to time all children and young people will have emotional problems that affect their wellbeing, and, for most, these problems are short-lived and easily resolved with the right support from friends, family and others, including health, social care and education professionals. For a small number of young people the problems are more severe and more specialist mental health assessment, support and sometimes treatment is required. These problems include for example; depression and anxiety, behaviour disorders, eating disorders, psychosis, and self-harming. The review of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) has been prompted by feedback from service users and providers that access and waiting times within the service could be improved. Young people, their parents and carers will therefore be invited to share their views and experience of the service. Feedback on the re-design proposals will also…

Police Crack Down On Drugs Over Festive Period

December 25, 2012
By
Humberside Police

The party season is now in full swing, and whilst most people enjoy themselves by over indulging in the festive spirit by perhaps consuming excess food and drink, the temptation to try drugs or dabble in them can be too much for some to overcome. Humberside Police, Hull City Council and NHS Hull are working together to make people aware of the dangers and symptoms of drugs, particularly mephedrone, also known as MCAT. The partner agencies will also provide up-to-date information on how and where to access support agencies and networks which are available for everyone, from first time users, recreational users, addicts or concerned family and friends. Police Officers and Staff in Hull held a week of action in October, 2012, which supported on-going work being carried out in schools, colleges and in the wider community, which targets criminals, but educates people on how mephedrone and other substances can have a detrimental effect on not just the user’s lives, but also the loved ones around them. Parents of school children in secondary schools across the city received a letter from Ch Insp Dave Houchin, which gave information on what the drug is, how it is taken, signs and symptoms,…

Council Tax Benefit and Exemption Proposals

December 6, 2012
By
Hull City Council

Hull City Council’s Value for Money Overview and Scrutiny Commission will be reviewing recommendations regarding changes to Council Tax Benefits and Council Tax exemptions. Reports will then go to Cabinet, before Full Council makes a final decision on proposals on 20 December 2012. From April 2013, the national Council Tax Benefit scheme will be scrapped and replaced with Local Council Tax Support schemes drawn up by local Councils, leaving many of those who claim a Council Tax Benefit some what worried about the future. Under the new schemes, the Government is giving Councils less funding to help people who struggle to pay their Council Tax. From April, Hull City Council will receive approximately £2.9m less. These changes will not affect pensioners who will still receive the same levels of support as they did under the old scheme. Over the summer, the Council held a public consultation on its preferred local scheme, which would see those people who currently get 100% of their bill met by Council Tax Benefit having to pay at least 20% of their bill from next April. Since the consultation closed, the Government has made Local Authorities an offer of a one year only transitional grant on the basis that…

Hull City Council

A Hull takeaway has been fined for serving a piece of broken glass in food. Hull City Council’s Environmental Health Officers brought the prosecution against Golden Bridge, Hessle Road after a member of public found the piece of glass in a takeaway meal of stir fried beef with onions in May 2012. The investigation at the takeaway found a damaged bottle of sweet chilli sauce that the piece of glass had come from. The takeaway’s chef, Mr Li, knew the bottle had been broken the same night the meal was cooked, but inadequate cleaning and checking had taken place after the breakage and before food production was re-started. The Hull Takeaway in question, Golden Bridge , 747 Hessle Road, Hull, is operated by a limited company and both the company, F Data Limited and the chef, Mr Hai Xiang Li, pleaded guilty of food safety offences relating to the sale of a takeaway meal which contained a shard of glass that had come from a broken bottle of sweet chilli sauce. At Hull Magistrates Court on Friday 23 November, they were each fined £750 and each required to pay Hull City Council costs of £750, a victim surcharge of £25…
