Graham Stuart MP Leads Event To Help Save Lives

As part of a campaign to improve emergency ambulance response times across his constituency, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart held a HEART Conference in Withernsea last Saturday. Named ‘Influence, Educate and Have a Go’ the aim of the event was to get members of the public to learn how they can make a difference in an emergency as well as promoting the work of Community First Responder Teams. Graham said, “Saturday’s event was so well received that people are urging me to repeat it in Beverley, Hedon and Hornsea, it was fantastic to see so many children and adults who were genuinely interested in learning how to save a life. Knowing how to save the life of a friend, loved one or even a complete stranger is a skill that you hope you will never need to use but will be very grateful of if you find yourself in an emergency situation. “Since the beginning of my campaign, emergency response times in the constituency have got better but there is still room for improvement; with greater support for our Community First Responder Teams and more teams, particularly in Mid Holderness, we can improve those times further…

Council’s Free Compost Giveaways

East Riding residents have just a few more chances to get free bags of compost which are being given away by East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The giveaways are taking place at: 16, May West Park, Goole, from 4pm 17, May Brantingham Park, Brantingham, from 4pm 20 May, old council depot, Grovehill Road, Beverley, from 2pm 22 May, Sport & Social Club, Pocklington, from 4pm 23 May, South Holderness School, Preston, from 4pm. Up to 80 tonnes of free soil improver, the composted contents of the brown bins is being given away, a total of up to 5,000 bags. Giveaways have already been held in Market Weighton, Hornsea, Bridlington and Withernsea. Each resident will be allowed two bags which will be put directly into the car boot by council staff so that residents do not need to do any lifting. Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning, said: “The compost giveaways are among the highlights of the gardening calendar for many of our residents. “The compost is from the garden waste and food waste our residents put in their brown bins many months ago, keeping it out of landfill. Yorkshire Communities Receive £30,000 Cash Boost

Across Yorkshire 32 community groups are celebrating winning thousands of pounds from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), as part of a new pilot programme designed to help grassroots gardening in the region. Another £30,000 will be available again next year. More than 80 groups applied for grants from the charity to help fund local projects and the RHS Yorkshire in Bloom team have awarded three main projects up to £8,250 each* and a further 29 groups will receive funds of £300**. The first flagship fund is going to Keyhouse Keighley (£5, 350), a charity supporting 5000 homeless people, to build a kitchen garden at the charity’s drop-in centre which is located in a deprived area with no access to growing space. The second significant share of funding will go towards training and to develop a partnership between Harris Road Allotment Society and Marlcliffe School, Sheffield (£8,060) to reap the health benefits of grow your own. Horton Community Farm, Bradford will receive £8,258 to help transform a derelict site into a community garden for local residents. Bring your family and your pets to our Vicar of Dibbley style day. Densholme Community Care Farm have a local vicar coming to run the service. The 5th May is Rogation Sunday, where fields are blessed to bring luck to the crops for the growing year. They want to get all their pets involved and bless them as well! With a light hearted service on the farm and lots of stalls and activities for all the family including a guess the name of the bear competition, how many sweets in a jar, a tombola and a waggiest tail competition for all those excited pets out there. All the money raised from the day is going to the Hull Animal Welfare Trust, so we need to see as many people there as possible to make it a great day and raise plenty of money for those rescue animals.
