East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Private Sector Housing Team is inviting private landlords, who own properties in the area, to attend one of two business seminar events taking place this month. The seminars are free events and include workshops looking at the welfare reforms, and how they will impact on tenants and landlords, information will be given as to help and advice available within the East Riding. An update will also be given about planned future initiatives of the private sector housing team, changes to housing and energy efficiency legislation. Seminars will be held on Thursday, 16 May at Hessle High School, Boothferry Road and on Thursday, 23 May in the Harbour Suite at The Spa Bridlington. The two hour events will start at 6.30pm These informal events have been organised as part of the council’s commitment to working in partnership with private landlords, promoting responsible letting and encouraging landlords to invest. East Riding of Yorkshire Council will again have staff and equipment on stand by at its depots as high winds continue to affect the East Riding, with forecasts indicating more of the same over the next 24 hours. The council’s grounds maintenance team deployed two forestry standby crews last night to operate outside normal working hours, to respond to call outs, and dealt with a number of reports of fallen trees, including two in the Hessle area, one in Seaton and one in Rawcliffe Road, Goole. John Skidmore, head of streetscene services, said: “As well as the call outs last night from residents and our partners in the emergency services, our grounds maintenance teams have also been busy today clearing fallen trees, branches and other debris from the highway network. “The council is taking a proactive approach in dealing with the current spell of high winds, with some wind speeds in excess of 50 mph, and will continue to remain vigilant until the wind decreases. “The council recently completed an asset survey of all the trees in the East Riding as part of its overall forestry management across the area.” To report a fallen tree on the highway network or…

Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident which occurred around 2330hrs on Wednesday 3 April 2013 in the car park of the Asda supermarket on Hessle Road in Hull. A pregnant woman who was returning to her car from the store reported being approached by a man who inappropriately touched her before she managed to get into her vehicle. The man, who is described as white, approximately 6ft tall with short mousey blonde hair, gelled at the front was reported to pursue the woman further as she got into her car but was pulled away by another person. Further details of the alleged offender are that he was wearing a grey hooded top with black stripes down the sleeves, aged in his mid to late 20s, clean-shaven and spoke with a local accent. Police are appealing for the member of the public who intervened to come forward as well as anyone else who may have information in connection with this incident. Humberside Police are warning people to be on their guard and not to leave purses in easily accessible places after nine purse thefts have been reported since the beginning of the year in the East Riding. In March alone, seven victims aged between 48 and 89-years old have had their purses stolen whilst out shopping in the East Riding. CCTV Stills of two women have been released, in a bid for the public to help indentify them and help officers with their enquiries. The offences have occurred in Morrison’s Supermarkets in Anlaby and Brough, Bon Marche in Beverley, Post Office in Hessle and a charity shop and Co-operative Store in Cottingham. Two shoppers were targeted at a similar time whist shopping in Bon Marche, in Beverley: At 1120hrs on Thursday 14 March 2013, as a 48-year-old woman was browsing inside the clothes shop her handbag was allegedly unzipped taking her purse from the bag, containing the victims purse, bank cards, driving license, medical card, and money. At the same time on the same day a 65-year-old woman was also inside the clothing shop and had her handbag allegedly unzipped, selecting her purse. The victim realised her purse had gone, whilst…
