Specialist drug dogs from West Yorkshire paid a visit to the East Riding on Friday. Drugs Dogs Millie a 6-year-old Springer Spaniel and Alfe a 3-year-old Labrador, specialists in sniffing drugs on a person will be the special guests of Kirkella Neighbourhood Policing team for the day and night in a bid to tackle potential issues faced in the area. PC Andy White from Kirkella Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “I am pleased to say on Friday Willerby, Hessle and Cottingham will be visited by the dogs to educate students and drinkers of the dangers of illegal drugs.” From 1400hrs on Friday 23 November until the early hours of Saturday morning, police officers in the Haltemprice area will be taking two highly skilled drugs dog into areas, where police have received reports of ASB, alleged drug use and unsocialable activities. On Thursday 8 November from 1600hrs areas of Willerby, Anlaby and West Hull will be met by ‘The Police Community Bus’, offering a variety of free services to residents. The Haltemprice Neighbourhood Team has planned a crime prevention event to offer a variety of services and invaluable advice to local residents – on their door steps. Police Officers, PCSOs, Special Constables and Police Volunteers will be offering crime prevention advice, bike/power tool security etching, bike coding, property marking and general crime prevention advice to any resident who wishes to come on board the bus. Police Community Support Officer, Steve Clayton said: “The crime prevention tour is a new initiative that has been put together to bring services to people’s doors, with the aim to help improve their quality of life.” “Working in partnership with other agencies like Neighbourhood Watch will give the community the best possible service and a chance for residents with any issues or concerns to be raised. East Riding Voluntary Action Services (ERVAS), working in partnership with the Council, is bringing a volunteering roadshow to 10 different locations around the East Riding during the week beginning Monday, 5 November 2012. This event will be using the East Riding’s Public Health Vehicle to support and promote volunteering opportunities to anyone interested in learning more. As well as having a whole host of voluntary and community organisations represented to showcase the opportunities they have to offer, representatives from ERVAS’s Volunteer Centre will be on hand to help people identify when and how they could become involved in supporting community work through volunteering.
