Graham Stuart, the MP for Beverley and Holderness is encouraging homeowners to get ready for the ‘Green Deal’, a flagship government initiative to increase the energy efficiency of properties. Graham said, “If you are considering updating your heating system or improving your home insulation then take a look to see if you can benefit from The Green Deal. The scheme opens for applications at the end of January and a cash back incentive for front-runner applications has just been announced. You can get the ball rolling now by calling the Green Deal advice line on 0300 123 1234. “The Green Deal is available to everybody and has been designed with no upfront costs; instead the work is paid for by a loan that will be paid back via savings on your energy bills. YOUR VIEWS : Letter From Graham Stuart

Dear Sir Through your Letters page I’d like to let local charities and community groups know about a new Government initiative – Big Society Capital. Big Society Capital (formerly referred to as the ‘Big Society Bank’) opened its doors on 4 April, and provides capital funding to voluntary groups. Details can be found at www.bigsocietycapital.com. The Government has also set up a £10m Investment and Contract Readiness Fund’ as an additional source of grants to help organisations get ready for the new regime around government funding. Details for this can be found at www.beinvestmentready.org.uk. We’re lucky in the East Riding to have so many excellent local charities and voluntary groups and I hope that trustees and officers will apply for these funds and be helped to keep looking after local needs. Yours faithfully Graham Stuart MP 9 Cross St Beverley HU17 9AX Use Facebook to Comment on this Post

Free Nationally Recognised Qualifications For Local Construction Workers

Construction workers in Beverley and the surrounding area are being encouraged to sign up to a new Government funded training scheme aimed at up-skilling existing employees. Llite Training in Hull has recently managed to secure a number of free places on a range of courses delivering nationally recognised qualifications to experienced construction workers. Workers who have a wealth of construction experience but do not hold any formal qualifications will be able to access free training enabling them to achieve a Diploma Level 2, NVQ Level 2 as well as a range of Key Skills. The qualifications are delivered using a combination of site visits, online learning and sessions at Llite’s Training Centres. In order to minimise disruption to work, each course is designed to suit the needs of employers and individuals, including weekend and evening sessions if necessary. Managing Director Christine Willson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for companies and employees in the area to benefit from a fantastic Government initiative. The training allows experienced employees to demonstrate their competencies and gain highly regarded qualifications, helping them to develop sustainable, high quality careers. And it enables employers to develop a highly qualified, skilled workforce – helping them to win…
