Residents and new members are being invited to come along to a public open evening to find out more about the history of Driffield Canal and the extensive restoration work carried out to date. The open evening will take place on Tuesday, 23rd October (6:30pm) at Cass Hall, Driffield. The Renaissance partnership for Driffield (known as ‘Driffield Partnership’) is playing an instrumental role in the amalgamation of the Driffield Canal Partnership, which is made up of various groups, organisations and individuals with an interest in waterways and the future potential of the Driffield Canal. The Canal Partnership includes not only charitable groups but landowners, businesses and individuals who are looking to develop the Big Plan for the whole of the eleven mile waterway. For the first time, all groups have been brought together under one banner to look at how they can work together to gain maximum benefit for the Canal and the town. Izzy Kitt, Chair of the Driffield Canal Partnership, said: “This is a positive step forwards for Driffield. MATCH REPORT : Under 13s Cup, Cherry Burton 4 v 3 North Cave

October 9, 2012

A Thomas Scarborough goal in the last seconds of the match settled this thrilling encounter between two excellent sides. Playing the joint league leaders of the top division Cherry knew they had to start well and this they did as Scarborough forced a good save from the keeper early on. However it was Cave that took the lead when a fine cross was met by an even better header. Cherry’s defence of Josh Darley, Jack Curtis, Charles Williams, Harry Hemphill and Elbie Laurie were all superb and gave the Cave attack no time on the ball and with keeper Harry Milner producing a couple of outstanding saves the game remained in the balance. In fact Cherry started to dominate and were unlucky not to equalise following good efforts from Bradley Maffin and Brandon May. Finally the pressure told as Maffin found Owen Parnaby and his low 25 yard shot nestled in the corner to see Cherry go into the break all square. GOOLE : Bid For £1.5m From the Heritage Lottery Fund Unsuccessful

May 17, 2012
By

Disappointing news was received this week when Goole learnt that a bid for £1.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) was unsuccessful. The funding bid, to HLF’s Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) programme, centred on Aire Street was designed to inject investment and renew interest to reinstate a cluster of buildings of significant architectural and heritage value that included repair, restoration of building features and bringing properties back into use. Goole Renaissance Manager Helen Hoult said “We are very disappointed with the outcome but we must not be deterred from pushing forwards with what we need to do next. The THI programme is a very competitive and over- subscribed funding source so we recognised from the start that the chances of success may be limited. In June we will be attending a meeting with Heritage Lottery to discuss the bid and explore options for re-applying’. Steve Devey, Team Leader for Conservation, Landscape & Archaeology explained that “Goole retains much of its Victorian splendour, but this has in some places been neglected in favour of the town’s industrial and commercial role as an inland port. This is particularly evident in the Aire Street area. Goole’s fascinating contrasts between town, industry, water…
