Councils Pleased With Funding Confirmation For Joint Flood Alleviation Scheme

East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Hull City Council have welcomed news that the Environment Agency has approved the grant funding application for a major flood alleviation scheme that will reduce the risk of flooding for around 8,000 properties. The £14.4 million Willerby and Derringham Flood Alleviation Scheme (WaDFAS) will consist of a series of lagoons at Rawdales Farm, Robson’s Cottage, Albion Mills and Carr Lane, which will hold around 205,000 cubic metres of water and was granted planning permission earlier this year. The next stages of the project will be to finalise the detailed design, procure a contractor and acquire the land necessary for the scheme, preferably by negotiation, although a compulsory purchase order is being prepared and anticipated to be published in spring/summer. Construction works are currently anticipated to start in summer 2014 and be complete in summer 2015.
