East Riding Local Plan

The Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin MP, Secretary of State for Transport, is today visiting the East Riding to mark the completion of highway works on the A164 and speak to users of the council’s Wheels to Work Scheme, in Goole, which was funded by the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). The £10 million A164 Humber Bridge to Beverley Route Improvement Scheme, to which the council contributed £2.3 million, began in spring 2012 and was designed to reduce congestion, particularly at peak intervals, and improve traffic flows for up to 35,000 vehicles using the road each day. As well as the installation of a section of dual carriageway, between Willerby and Castle Hill, the council’s contractor, Jackson Civil Engineering, also reconfigured four roundabouts and constructed lengths of new footpath/cycleway. To commemorate the occasion, Mr McLoughlin, Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Adam Tuke, contracts director for Jackson Civil Engineering, will be planting a tree at the site. In the afternoon, the Transport Secretary will be visiting Goole to view one of the schemes being funded by the £1.8 million the council successfully secured from the LSTF for the ‘Get Moving Goole’…

Able UK’s Marine Energy Park : Offshore Wind Connections

Potential supply chain opportunities at Able UK’s Marine Energy Park (AMEP) and the fallout from the introduction of the Energy Bill are on the agenda at a free breakfast briefing this week. The Team Humber Marine Alliance (THMA) hosted ‘Offshore Wind Connections’, which is being supported by EEF the manufacturers’ organisation, will feature David Shepherd, Able UK’s group business executive. There are a limited number of delegate spaces available at the briefing this Wednesday, April 24, at Forest Pines, Brigg, which will also includes senior industry figures from David Brown Wind Energy, Strabag Offshore and the Department for Energy & Climate Change (DECC). Mr Shepherd will detail the proposed 320ha Able UK’s Marine Energy Park development on the south bank of the Humber, just north of Immingham, the anticipated economic growth it will create for the Humber region and outline how local companies can be involved. “The offshore wind industry is tonnage light and land hungry – something most ports don’t know how to deal with or don’t want to,” said Mr Shepherd. ”AMEP provides a unique UK solution meaning the Humber is now poised to take advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity.” The project is at a critical…

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Birse Civils as the main contractor to deliver the £22million Beverley Integrated Transport Plan. Beverley Integrated Transport Plan received Full Approval from the Department for Transport (DfT) last month, with works scheduled to start this summer and anticipated to be complete by early 2015. The scheme, which will be one of the largest capital investments ever undertaken by the council, will include the long-awaited and much-needed Beverley Southern Relief Road (BSRR), amendments to the Grovehill junction, Swinemoor roundabout and Flemingate level crossing and signing works to reclassify the road network in and around Beverley. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The appointment of a contractor for this important highways scheme is another significant milestone passed and in Birse Civils Limited we have a Yorkshire contractor delivering the project, providing a timely boost for the construction industry. “Beverley Integrated Transport Plan represents excellent value for money and will result in improved transport infrastructure for Beverley in the long-term, plus immediate benefits such as the involvement of the local business community in its delivery, safeguarding jobs and providing the opportunity for local young people…

First Time Buyers Reap The Benefits Of Buying Off Plan In York

First time buyers Lauren Foreman and Rob Brotherton did just that, and are delighted with their new home at Linden Homes’ 1877 development in York. Having moved from Leeds, the couple took advantage of the government-backed FirstBuy scheme – requiring just a five per cent deposit to secure their dream home. Track design engineer Rob (25) who works in York said: “We saw the development advertised on the Internet and although we weren’t actually looking to move so soon, we couldn’t turn it down. We were looking for a new build, but there were none in the area that fitted our requirements. We had given up hope on new builds in York, until Linden Homes came along.” Having looked at other Linden Homes developments and properties in the area, the couple decided to reserve from plan – with location forming a key requirement. Customer service advisor Lauren (22) added: “We thought the homes looked really well built, and the location is perfect – everything you would like near your home is within walking distance. “We weren’t really looking to move so soon, mainly because we didn’t have a 10 per cent deposit, so to be able to benefit from FirstBuy…

Businesses and organisations can apply for these grants via a training provider such as East Riding of Yorkshire Council employment and skills team. Eligible employers are those who have never employed an apprentice before or who have not employed an apprentice within the last 12 months. The £1,500 grant is in addition to the Government funding already available for the training costs of the apprenticeship framework. For more information or to check eligibility, call the employment and skills team on (01482) 887670. One organisation already working with East Riding of Yorkshire Council is Fisher Security Limited, based in Goole.
