East Riding Local Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Highways Maintenance Team has completed its surface dressing programme for the year, repairing and improving approximately 120km of highway across the area. This season’s programme was completed on time despite the various challenges posed by one of the wettest summers on record. The process relies upon warmer, drier weather to be successful and the team worked hard to ensure that the overall programme was completed within the ‘summer’ period. The East Riding operates its own specialist plant and equipment, which enables partnership working across the region, and saw the council again delivering similar repair works for City of York Council and, for the first time, Hull City Council. Surface dressing is preceded by patching works to address any structural defects in the road, once applied it provides a uniform appearance, improved skid resistance and sealing the road from water ingress. Councillor Chris Matthews, cabinet portfolio holder for highways, infrastructure and emergency planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The team, based at the council’s Hedon depot, have worked all hours, including overnight work to keep disruption to a minimum and in all weather conditions to improve highways across the East Riding network. “Ensuring the…

GOOLE : Council Welcome Additional Pumping Capacity

July 17, 2012
By

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has welcomed proposals by Yorkshire Water to retain the additional temporary pumping capacity set up in Goole recently to reduce the risk of flooding. With assistance from the council, temporary pipe work and pumps where installed at the water company’s Carr Lane pumping station to reduce flood waters in the town and surrounding areas following an equipment failure at the facility. It is understood that Yorkshire Water are looking at options to make this equipment semi-permanent. A meeting was held at County Hall, Beverley, between the council, emergency services, local politicians and Yorkshire Water, during which the company proposed to maintain the temporary pumping provision for the immediate future, a measure which will increase capacity in the town by around 20 per cent. Councillor Chris Matthews, cabinet portfolio holder for infrastructure, highways and emergency planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council welcomes this move by Yorkshire Water which will help reduce the risk of flooding in the medium term and provide a back-up in the event of a further equipment failure in the town. “Ongoing discussions between the council and Yorkshire Water are taking place about how the authority can help facilitate…

BroughStation

East Riding of Yorkshire Council, in partnership with First TransPennine Express, has installed six new motorcycle parking bays at Brough railway station to provide a safe and secure location for motorcyclists to park their bikes at the station. Funding has come from the government-supported Local Transport Plan (LTP). The latest LTP includes a rail strategy which supports and promotes more travel by train. A key part of this is the development of rail station travel plans for each of the main railway stations in the East Riding, produced in partnership with First TransPennine Express and Northern Rail, which identify actions to improve accessibility to and from stations and help to promote more train use in the area. Councillor Christopher Matthews, the Council’s portfolio holder for infrastructure, highways and emergency planning, said: “The Council is working in partnership with rail companies to support and promote more journeys by train in the East Riding. “This facility at Brough Rail Station will provide secure parking for motorcyclists using the station and adds to additional cycle and car parking already provided. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to use the train as an alternative to the car for longer…
