East Riding Local Plan

The council is now underway with a £2 million surface dressing programme that will see around 650,000 square metres of highway resurfaced between now and August. Work began last week on sections of the network in Holderness and this week sees maintenance teams working nights on the A1079 at Arras Hill, near Market Weighton, and the A1035 Tickton Bypass, so as to minimise disruption to motorists and the travelling public. Surface dressing forms part of the council’s proactive approach to the maintenance of the 3,500km of highway network in the East Riding and takes place every year on both urban and rural roads. Surface dressing has four main purposes: to provide texture and skid resistance to an existing surface, to seal a road against water, to stop disintegration and to provide a uniform appearance for a patched road. Councillor Chris Matthews, cabinet portfolio holder for infrastructure, highways and emergency planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Ensuring the roads and infrastructure of the East Riding, as a whole, is in the best possible order long term is a top priority for the council. “Surface dressing provides a value for money and proactive approach by sealing roads, reducing reactive repair…

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of local construction company, Hobson & Porter, as the main contractor for the £6million Haltemprice Centre project, with the works scheduled to start at the end of April. The scheme, which forms part of the council’s capital investment programme, was granted planning permission in December last year and will improve access to service provision by bringing a number of local services under one roof, including Anlaby’s library and customer service centre, resulting in reduced running costs as well as addressing a number of maintenance requirements and improving the venue’s energy efficiency. B1228 : Update On Proposed Road Works

February 1, 2013
By
East Riding Local Plan

The eight-week road closure of the B1228 for carriageway reconstruction works, which was due to commence on Monday, 4 February, has been delayed for a week in order to allow groundwater levels to be measured. The testing will be done in order to be certain whether the current high groundwater levels being experienced in the area will have an adverse affect on the carriageway recycling process. Provided that the results of the testing demonstrate suitable conditions, the two sections of reconstruction at the locations will be carried out simultaneously in order to keep the road closure periods to a minimum: Site one, between Fog Lane and General Lane, Ellerton, will see works carried out in two phases, between Rossmoor Lodge Junction and Ash Lane cross roads, starting on Monday, 11 February, and between Ash Lane and Ellerton Common Junction, starting on Monday, 25 February. Site two, on Street Lane, Bubwith, will also be carried out in two phases, between the A163 junction at Bubwith and Breighton Airfield, starting on Monday, 11 February, and phase two, between Brieghton Airfield and the junction near Spaldington, starting on Monday, 25 February. Access through the two sites will only be permitted for residents and…

HUMBER BRIDGE : Brave Officers Save Mans Life

October 19, 2012
By

Quick thinking police officers saved the life of a local man when he attempted to jump off the Humber Bridge. The incident, which took place on Friday 12 October, resulted in the closure of the northbound carriageway of the HumberBridge and created traffic chaos on a busy evening for commuters. Roads around the bridge came to a standstill with traffic problems impounded by the closure of County Road North in the west of Hull and Hull Fair was also in full swing. Police were called to the HumberBridge by the concerned girlfriend of a man who had contacted her in a distressed state and stated he was intending to take his own life. The incident commenced shortly before 1530hrs and very quickly it was established that the northbound carriageway of the HumberBridge would have to be closed for the safety of all those involved. The man at risk had climbed to the wrong side of the railings on the mid span of the Humber Bridge. A specialist team of police officer negotiators was called in to talk to the man and persuade him to return to safety. At 1630hrs the man made a determined effort to jump from the bridge…

Local organisations urge community to put metal theft on the scrap heap

A local partnership formed to tackle metal theft in Hull and East Yorkshire is appealing to members of the public to look out for suspicious behaviour involving the removal of metal. Humberside Police is working with communications providers KC and BT, Hull City Council and local scrap metal merchants to combat metal theft in the region. The number of metal thefts has dramatically increased across the country in recent years, with the rising price of metals like copper and lead being blamed for the problem. Metal theft has far-reaching consequences for communities and businesses, as the missing metal can cause train delays, power cuts and phone and broadband service problems. Sgt Julian Hart, from Humberside Police, said: “Metal theft isn’t a victimless crime. It causes damage to properties and disruption to vital services. “Members of the community have an important part to play in tackling metal theft too, by reporting any suspicious behaviour, which might include someone pushing a wheelie bin or barrow filled with metal, or witnessing people in unmarked vehicles and clothing working in manholes or on roofs. All reports are taken seriously and welcomed by the police and partner agencies.” Earlier this year 1,600 homes and businesses…
